Guglielmo Vicario has sealed a season-long loan move to Juventus from Tottenham.
After months of speculation, Guglielmo Vicario has finally left Tottenham Hotspur.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper has joined Juventus on loan for the season, with the Turin giants holding an £8.5m option to make the move permanent next summer. Following his move to Italy, he took to social media to send a message to Spurs fans.
Having featured in 31 Premier League appearances for Spurs last season, Guglielmo Vicario lost his place to Antonin Kinsky toward the back end of the season, with surgery on a hernia disrupting his season in March. And after Roberto De Zerbi decided to promote Kinsky as the club’s new No.1, coupled with the arrival of the experienced goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley, Vicario became surplus to requirements in N17.
Italian pundit thinks Guglielmo Vicario will excel at Juventus
Vicario had made up his mind to leave Tottenham by the end of last season. After losing his place to Kinsky, the experienced glovesman was keen to return to his homeland after three years in England. The Lilywhites then excluded him from their preparations for the new season, and Vicario waited all summer to find a new club before Juventus agreed to sign him on loan.
Now, Italian pundit Giorgio Perinetti has given his verdict on Juventus signing Vicario. He praised the goalkeeper’s “great mentality”, backing him to excel at Juventus under Luciano Spalletti.
“Well, I know him very well, I made him debut with Venezia in D, C and B. He’s a guy who definitely has a great mentality, a great personality, a great mental structure: these are things they can do well at Juventus. He’s a great guy, a great person, he’s a great goalkeeper, I’ve had him for three years, I can only speak highly of him,” Giorgio Perinetti was quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.
Huge opportunity for Vicario to get his career back on track
Before his signing became official, Spalletti also spoke highly of Vicario. This shows the confidence the Bianconeri coach has in the Tottenham loanee’s ability. A tough 12 to 15 months does not define a player; it is important how he bounces back from adversity and proves himself again.
Vicario has got that chance now. He is perhaps in the best place to resurrect his career and guide Juve back to the top again. The pressure at Old Lady will be huge, but an experienced goalkeeper like Vicario knows pressure is a privilege. Spalletti and his club are banking on him; it is now his turn to repay the faith.
