Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke will be hoping to stay fit throughout the upcoming season.
Tottenham Hotspur head into the brand-new Premier League season with a familiar problem- injuries. Roberto De Zerbi is dealing with a lot of injuries and must find a way to navigate.
Spurs defeated Hoffenheim in their last pre-season friendly (in front of fans) on Saturday, before a 2-2 draw with the same opponents behind closed doors at Hotspur Way on Sunday. Several players were missing the back-to-back friendlies with Hoffenheim, including Dominic Solanke.
Dominic Solanke endured an injury-curtailed pre-season this summer, featuring in just two games. The centre-forward experienced pain in his ankle that saw him miss friendlies against Getafe and Hoffenheim. The England international played just 15 Premier League games last season after an ankle injury last August kept him out of action until January.
During that time, he missed 33 games. Dominic Solanke returned to action in the second week of January, and then he got injured again by the end of the campaign.
Dominic Solanke hints at Tottenham return ahead of Brentford clash
In an Instagram post, Solanke hinted at returning to fitness ahead of Brentford clash. And we now have confirmation that the striker is back in full training, with the England international spotted in the training video released by the club.
The 28-year-old missed almost the entirety of last season due to multiple injury issues. The Englishman featuring only twice throughout the pre-season only added to Roberto De Zerbi and our supporters’ concerns.
With Spurs planning to splash big on Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush, Solanke is now at risk of falling down De Zerbi’s pecking order. When fully fit and firing, the ex-Bournemouth star is an asset to the team, and De Zerbi is well aware of that. However, the forward needs to prove he can deliver strong numbers. With just three goals in 15 league games last season, Solanke’s availability remains a big concern, as is his impact and consistency.
De Zerbi and his coaching staff have to manage Solanke’s fitness well throughout the season to keep him healthy and charged. With no European distractions, the Italian boss will have opportunities to provide his starting No.9 sufficient breaks to rest and recuperate.
Hopefully, Solanke can keep himself fit and impact games regularly in the upcoming season. The England international joining his teammates in training is a big boost.
