Tottenham suffer transfer setback as summer target from Chelsea could join Atletico Madrid on loan until 2027 with an option to buy

Tottenham are hoping to bring in attacking reinforcements before the new Premier League season commences.

Tottenham are hoping to kickstart a new era at N17 under Roberto de Zerbi this season. The Lilywhites have done well in terms of recruitment, bringing in players who could make an immediate impact in the Premier League. It is fair to say that the North Londoners have managed to rectify most of the glaring issues in the squad by bolstering their defence and midfield, but there are still some areas that need to be addressed before the transfer window shuts.

Spurs found it difficult to find the back of the net in the Premier League last season, scoring only 48 goals in 38 league matches. That was one of the main reasons why the club finished just one place above the relegation zone, narrowly escaping the drop on the final day of the season. Richarlison was the only player who somehow managed to reach double figures for the Lilywhites, making it clear that attacking reinforcements were needed this summer.

It is clear that the North Londoners cannot rely on Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to find the back of the net on a regular basis this season. Both players have found it difficult to settle in at N17 and make a consistent impact on the pitch. Solanke, for all his talent, has struggled to remain fit since arriving at Hotspur Way. On the other hand, Richarlison is facing an uncertain future at the club and is heavily linked with a move to Juventus.

Tottenham will end up without long-term target Nicolas Jackson this summer

Tottenham are hoping to bring in a new striker who could displace Dominic Solanke in the starting eleven. Roberto de Zerbi is keen to form a new frontline that could make an immediate impact at N17 and help the club fight for European places this season. As a result, the Lilywhites are now targeting players who are tactically fluid and have the potential to find the back of the net on a regular basis in the coming months.

Recent reports have linked Spurs with Chelsea outcast Nicolas Jackson. The Senegal international is on the chopping block at Stamford Bridge after being told that he is not in Xabi Alonso’s long-term plans. As a result, the 25-year-old is on the transfer market, with the Blues slapping a €70m price tag on his signature. The report also states that the Lilywhites are facing competition from Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid for his services, as both clubs aim to bolster their attacks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

There has now been a new update on the transfer saga involving the talented striker. As per Nicolo Schira (via X), talks are progressing between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea over Nicolas Jackson’s signature this summer. The La Liga giants are keen to sign the Senegal international on loan until 2027, with the deal including an option to buy if the prolific forward manages to impress Diego Simeone in the coming months.

Spurs were never really expected to win the transfer battle to land Nicolas Jackson in the first place. Having realised that, the club have acted quickly and are now on the verge of completing a deal for Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush instead. The Egypt international is keen on the move, and personal terms are not thought to be an issue. It is believed that the 27-year-old could end up moving to N17 before the transfer window closes in a few days’ time.
