Tottenham are eyeing attacking reinforcements in the business end of the summer transfer window.
Latest reports from Brazil suggest Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a £86m deal to sign Manchester City winger Savinho.
Spurs have been pursuing the Brazilian winger all summer, having failed to land him 12 months ago. After arduous negotiations with the Sky Blues, they have finally found a breakthrough over a deal. Roberto De Zerbi wants to add three attacking players to his squad before the September 1 transfer deadline, with Savinho one of three names on their priority list.
The other one on the list is Savinho’s Manchester City teammate, Omar Marmoush. Reputable journalist David Ornstein revealed on Wednesday night that Spurs are working to sign Marmoush from Man City as well. De Zerbi is also eyeing an out-and-out goalscorer amid uncertainty over Richarlison and Dominic Solanke.
The Italian boss has Solanke and Richarlison as his two main centre-forward options. Neither player has enjoyed a highly successful spell at N17, with constant injury concerns and inconsistency in front of goal hampering their progress. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the North Londoners are prioritising a move for a new No.9.
Mick Brown urges Tottenham to raid Crystal Palace for star striker
Recent reports have linked Tottenham with Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The France international has scripted his name in the Crystal Palace history books thanks to his valuable contributions in the FA Cup, UEFA Conference League and Community Shield success.
Now, former scout Mick Brown has urged Spurs to target Jean-Philippe Mateta to bolster their striker options for the 2026/27 season. He shed light on Mateta’s current contract status at Selhurst Park, suggesting that it could work in the North London club’s favour.
“Tottenham have been wanting to sign a striker this summer. I think it’s clear at this point that they’re not entirely happy when you look at their current options. Are Dominic Solanke and Richarlison enough? They don’t think so,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
“So, when you’re looking at which top-class strikers might be available, and already have that Premier League experience, you need look no further than Jean-Philippe Mateta.
“That contract situation is still a factor, and Spurs will believe they can get him on the cheap, even if Palace are reluctant to let him go. He’s proven he can score goals at the top level and he would certainly be an upgrade on what Tottenham have already got, plus, he’s somebody who has been on their radar before.
“If they can make a suitable offer, they could be prepared to test Palace’s resolve and see how much money they are willing to pass up on.”
Spurs must test Crystal Palace’s resolve for Mateta
Back in January, AC Milan had a verbal agreement with Mateta before pulling the plug on the deal due to the Frenchman’s alleged fitness problem. He returned to Palace and scored the winner in the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano in Germany in May.
The centre-forward finally earned the recognition he deserved for his strong season at Selhurst Park, as Didier Deschamps included him in his World Cup squad. Despite being a peripheral figure in France’s star-studded team, he demonstrated that he can still make an impact at the highest level. With less than 12 months left to run on his contract, the Eagles could opt to cash him in.
As interest in Mateta is growing in the final stages of the transfer window, Spurs must test Palace’s resolve with a cheeky bid.
