Blow for Tottenham as target from FC Koln extends contract with the Bundesliga club

Tottenham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of a highly-rated Bundesliga talent.

After reinforcing the defence and midfield, the Tottenham Hotspur officials have been focusing on adding quality to Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking ranks.

De Zerbi currently has the likes of Mathys Tel, Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus to select from in attack, but he clearly requires more quality and depth to challenge for the Champions League spots. Savinho has been Spurs’ No.1 attacking target, and after months of painstakingly slow negotiations with Manchester City, the 22-year-old is finally heading to North London.

Well, Savinho isn’t the only Manchester City player close to joining Spurs. The two clubs have reached a broad agreement of close to £70 million plus add-ons for Omar Marmoush. Another attacker who has been on the North London club’s radar is FC Koln’s Said El Mala.

Tottenham target Said El Mala makes decisions on his FC Koln future

It has been reported in recent months that Tottenham are among several clubs keeping tabs on FC Koln winger Said El Mala. He enjoyed a strong breakout season in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances.

The North Londoners also supposedly made contact with the youngster’s representatives in June. He has been on the club’s shortlist for attackers until the winger made a decision on his future at FC Koln.

After months of swirling rumours and speculation over his future, Said El Mala is staying put at FC Koln. According to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, the 19-year-old sensation has even extended his contract with The Billy Goats until June 2031. He is also swapping his jersey from 13 to number 10.

This comes as a great relief to FC Koln fans after several clubs have been circling for their star attacker’s signature. Spurs were also one of those clubs, having been impressed by El Mala’s breakout campaign in the Bundesliga, which yielded 18 goal contributions. The Germany Under-21 international caught the eye with his pace, dribbling, movement and directness, demonstrating that he has the potential to cut the mustard in the Premier League.

Tottenham have been actively searching for dynamic wide attackers to reinforce the squad. El Mala’s direct dribbling ability and versatility across both flanks made him an appealing candidate for the North London club. However, with the German prodigy penning a new contract with Koln, it immediately puts an end to all speculation.
