The signing of Omar Marmoush from Manchester City could trigger the exit of the Tottenham forward.
Tottenham Hotspur are close to adding serious firepower to their forward line by completing a double raid of Manchester City.
Savinho is on the brink of joining the North Londoners for a fixed base transfer fee of £75 million, and Omar Marmoush is set to follow the Brazilian winger to White Hart Lane. Spurs are expected to sign Marmoush on an initial loan deal with a mandatory £50 million purchase option.
A humbling 3-0 defeat to Brentford handed Spurs a stark reality check on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. It has also accentuated the need for attacking reinforcements, with Richarlison proving ineffective up top vs. Brentford. This is where a player like Marmoush would enhance the Lilywhites’ forward ranks, providing a much-needed goal threat.
Omar Marmoush arrival could trigger Richarlison’s exit from Tottenham
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham’s decision to add Marmoush to the squad will have consequences on the future of Richarlison. The Brazilian international is likely to seek a move away from Spurs, with Everton interested in re-signing him. However, the forward’s departure will depend on the club and the player reaching an agreement over the next steps.
Richarlison is into the final 11 months of his existing contract, and Tottenham risk losing him on a free transfer next year. De Zerbi has been an admirer of Richarlison and may not be open to his departure so late in the transfer window. However, if the Brazilian pushes to leave amid concerns over playing time following the arrival of Marmoush, Spurs will be forced to sell him.
While Richarlison demonstrated admirable work ethic and registered 12 goals in all competitions during last season, recurring injury concerns and inconsistent performances have hindered his ability to cement a permanent position in De Zerbi’s first XI. Yet, he has no shortage of suitors. Turkish club Trabzonspor are reportedly exploring a late swoop for the South American star. They are gauging Tottenham’s valuation, the overall financial package, and Richarlison’s willingness to make the move to Turkey.
Interestingly, the North London club have the option to extend the centre-forward’s contract by one more year. That means Tottenham are not under immediate pressure to sell him before September 1 or accept any cut-price offers. However, it all depends on what Richarlison wants once Marmoush becomes a part of De Zerbi’s side.
