De Zerbi welcomes high pressure and demands continued transfer backing at Tottenham

Roberto De Zerbi insists he wants Tottenham to spend even more as he targets a winning culture in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has forcefully addressed questions regarding external expectations in North London, insisting he feels no pressure over the club’s heavy transfer spending and actively wants to keep investing before the transfer window closes. Speaking in a press conference reported by Alasdair Gold and shared by Hotspur Lane on X, the Italian manager detailed how internal standards drive his ambition to bring silverware to Tottenham.

Addressing the heightened scrutiny following Spurs’ substantial transfer outlay this summer, De Zerbi emphasized that pressure is an inherent part of his management style rather than a reaction to market figures:

“I felt pressure from the first day of working in football, because I put pressure on myself. I don’t feel pressure about the transfer market. If I can, I WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY AGAIN. Without problems. Because the other teams don’t spend anything different than money.

I feel pressure because I am working in one of the best clubs in the world, and I would like to help this club to compete to win the titles.”

De Zerbi questioned why Tottenham’s expenditure should be viewed differently from rival Premier League contenders, pointing out that top clubs across England routinely invest hundreds of millions to remain competitive at the highest level.

Rebuilding Squad Depth for Premier League Challenges

The manager’s comments arrive during a transformative summer window for Tottenham. With total club expenditure surpassing £300 million following major acquisitions such as Sávio, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes, De Zerbi views financial investment as essential to establishing long-term consistency.

Following an opening-day 3-0 setback against Brentford, De Zerbi reiterated that forging a winning culture across the squad requires patience, physical conditioning, and continuing squad reinforcement. As Spurs look toward upcoming domestic fixtures, De Zerbi’s focus remains firmly set on raising tactical standards, reshaping squad habits, and establishing Tottenham as genuine title contenders.
