Tottenham are still in need of a few decent signings.
Tottenham Hotspur came into this summer with a possible goalkeeping overhaul. It was quite expected for a while given the underwhelming performances of Vicario complemented by his injury problems.
Goalkeeping situation at Tottenham this summer
It was not Vicario not being a good keeper, but there were some flaws in the former Empoli man’s game that cost Tottenham time and again.
And with a lot of rumors surrounding him, it ended with Vicario joining Juventus on a loan transfer after Roberto De Zerbi pushed to keep Antoin Kinsky as his first choice going into the new season.
And Kinsky has been decent in the preseason, but Tottenham could possibly explore market opportunities if a possible move for a new marquee name could arise between the sticks. That is exactly where former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez comes into the picture.
The Argentine World Cup winner has been pursuing a move away from Aston Villa this summer. He was linked with extensive links to Juventus till that transfer fell through and the Serie A giants turned to Vicario.
But what followed was that Unai Emery went on to bring Suzuki in a marquee deal from Parma, with him taking that central role between the sticks at Villa Park.
And that is exactly the case; the Japan international started for Aston Villa in their 4-0 loss to Brighton. This opens up a possibility for the Lilywhites to sign Emi Martinez. That is exactly what Tottenham could look at as an opportunity and push to bring Emi to N17.
To aid that possibility, the odds of his possible move to Tottenham have also been slashed recently (h/t Football Insider).
Signing Emi Martinez makes sense for Tottenham
For Tottenham, if the Lilywhites are to bring in a goalkeeper with the potential that Martinez has between the sticks, it would be a proper statement, especially given other incomings that we have seen at Hotspur Way in the ongoing summer transfer window.
He is one of the best shot-stoppers in the world, and his experience in itself would offer De Zerbi a level of assurance between the posts that the fans haven’t seen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium of late.
With the window deadline just around the corner, Tottenham will have to move fast if they are to sign Emi.
Would you take Emi Martinez between the sticks and demote Kinsky to a developmental role between the sticks this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
