Omar Marmoush ineligible to face Manchester City due to ‘this’ reason

Omar Marmoush will miss Tottenham’s Premier League meetings with parent club Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Omar Marmoush will be unavailable to feature against his parent club, Manchester City, during the Premier League campaign due to the specific loan structure of his move to North London. According to a report from Last Word On Spurs on X, the Egyptian international’s initial temporary move contains Premier League regulatory restrictions that prevent him from taking the pitch in fixtures against the side from whom he is borrowed.

The transfer deal arranged between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City brings Marmoush to N17 on an initial loan basis. Included in the agreement is a £50 million buy clause that will become mandatory once specific performance or appearance conditions are met throughout the campaign.

Despite the agreement containing a clear path to a permanent £50 million transfer, Marmoush remains officially registered as a loan player until those contractual triggers are activated and the permanent transaction is fully processed. Premier League rules strictly forbid players on loan from competing against their parent clubs in any official league fixture. Consequently, Marmoush will be forced to watch from the sidelines when Tottenham take on Manchester City both home and away this season.

Tactical Consequences for Roberto De Zerbi

The temporary restriction presents an unavoidable tactical hurdle for head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who will have to alter his attacking setup whenever Tottenham face Pep Guardiola’s side. Marmoush was targeted by the Spurs hierarchy to add immediate dynamism, pressing intensity, and versatile goalscoring ability to the frontline following opening-day offensive struggles. While he will be fully cleared and available to lead the line against all other domestic and cup opponents, De Zerbi must plan around his absence for two of the most demanding fixtures on the calendar.

Despite the setback of his ineligibility for those marquee encounters, securing Marmoush alongside Brazilian winger Savinho provides Tottenham with a major long-term boost to their attacking ranks. As Spurs continue working to build a cohesive team structure under De Zerbi, Marmoush is expected to play a central role in transforming the team’s offensive output across the remainder of the campaign.
