Tottenham are up against Newcastle United in the Premier League’s Gameweek 2.
Tottenham Hotspur entertain Newcastle United at home in an exciting Premier League fixture on Saturday evening.
Spurs bounced back from their opening weekend disappointment at Brentford by thrashing Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the Carabao Cup second round. Roberto De Zerbi handed a debut to new signing Savio from the bench, and the Brazilian made an immediate impression by scoring and assisting against the Championship side.
It was the kind of response Roberto De Zerbi was hoping for from his boys after last weekend’s debacle at the Gtech Community Stadium. Spurs will be raring to get their first points on board in the Premier League by beating Newcastle United.
Roberto De Zerbi gives Tottenham injury news for the Newcastle United fixture
Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro are back fit and are in contention to start this weekend. The duo missed the opening game but made their return in the midweek clash against Charlton. Ahead of the Newcastle game, De Zerbi has now provided an injury update on his Tottenham squad.
“Yes, we are all in the right condition to play. Maybe Kudus can come on the bench. We have to see,” De Zerbi said in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football London).
“Van de Ven is right to play. We have to look, we have to understand the beginning part of the game. Like Savio, like Pedro, Marmoush is available to play, maybe also at the beginning of the game.
“Robertson is like Udogie. Udogie is good news for us because Udogie is very important and he played well for 60 minutes, like was the plan.”
Mohammed Kudus’ return from injury a big boost for De Zerbi
In a big boost, Mohammed Kudus is in contention to return from injury for Spurs against the Magpies. The versatile playmaker has been sidelined since January with a serious quad injury. He was expected to return late last season, but suffered a setback in his recovery and did not feature in any of Spurs’ pre-season games.
The African ace returned to full team training earlier this week. So, having Kudus back again feels like a new signing. The Ghanaian international could solve Tottenham’s creativity issue in the injury absence of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons. The 26-year-old will provide tactical flexibility to De Zerbi, whilst adding a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack in the final third.
If the Lilywhites are finding it difficult to unlock Newcastle’s defence, Kudus would be an option to bring off the bench.
