Club insider tells Tottenham fans to keep an eye on highly-rated goalkeeper from Benfica

Tottenham could surprise the fans with a late swoop for a highly-rated goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur have undergone radical changes to their squad over the summer transfer window. Roberto De Zerbi has managed to move on players he feels do not fit into his plans moving forward and replace them with Premier League-proven commodities.

Guglielmo Vicario was nailed on to leave the club after how his last season ended. The 29-year-old made several mistakes throughout the campaign before undergoing groin surgery during the March international break. When he returned, Roberto De Zerbi did not take any risks and stuck with Antonin Kinsky in goal. And that decision paid rich dividends, as Kinsky went onto play a key role in Tottenham securing top-flight safety.

After speculation since late May, Vicario finally sealed a loan move to Juventus earlier this month. Tottenham have already roped in Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley, but with question marks over Kinsky continuing between the sticks after an underwhelming display in the 3-0 defeat to Brentford last weekend, it looks like the club officials could recruit another goalkeeper before next week’s transfer deadline.

Tottenham could swoop for Benfica goalkeeper

According to club insider Paul O’Keefe on X, Tottenham have had a ‘glancing eye’ on Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. He has told the Spurs fans to keep an eye on the 25-year-old.

Anatoliy Trubin has been rated as one of Europe’s highly-rated young goalkeepers. The Ukrainian international caught the attention of the footballing fraternity in January after scoring a stoppage-time goal in a 4-2 Champions League victory over Real Madrid. The shot-stopper finished the 2025/26 league season with 13 clean sheets, conceding just 24 goals in 32 games.

The Donetsk native has previously worked with De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk and hinted earlier this year that he would welcome a reunion with the Italian tactician. Standing at 6ft 6ins tall, Trubin is a well-rounded presence in goal. A strong distributor and presence in the box, the Benfica star would be a smart option to replace the departed Vicario in the Tottenham squad and challenge Kinsky for the No.1 spot.

Having worked with the shot-stopper before, De Zerbi will be able to trust him completely to start attacks from the back. However, signing Trubin would be an uphill task for Spurs as he has a contract at Estadio da Luz until 2028 and is protected by a €100 million release clause.

While chances of a move happening are very much unlikely, the surprises which the Tottenham officials have given this summer should keep the hopes alive within our optimistic fans until the September 1 deadline.
