Tottenham must sanction at least two departures to resolve their non-homegrown squad quota issue.
Tottenham Hotspur are facing a major squad registration issue following the high-profile summer arrivals of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush and Brazilian winger Sávio.
According to reports from football journalist Alasdair Gold via The Spurs Express on X, Tottenham currently have 19 non-homegrown players in their senior squad, exceeding the Premier League limit of 17 allowed in a registered 25-man roster. With the transfer deadline fast approaching, North London decision-makers must sanction at least two non-homegrown departures to comply with league regulations.
Japanese defender Kota Takai has emerged as the primary candidate to leave Tottenham before the transfer window closes. Having arrived to bolster defensive depth, Takai’s pathway to consistent first-team minutes under head coach Roberto De Zerbi has become increasingly narrow following squad reshuffling. Arranging a loan or permanent transfer for the young center-back represents the most straightforward resolution to trim Tottenham’s non-homegrown contingent by one slot.
Pape Matar Sarr and Richarlison Linked with Exits
Beyond Takai, both Pape Matar Sarr and Brazilian striker Richarlison have been identified as potential departures to resolve the quota imbalance. Sarr has been the subject of advanced loan talks with Nottingham Forest, while Richarlison continues to attract interest as Spurs recalibrate their attacking hierarchy after adding Marmoush and Sávio.
Premier League rules dictate that clubs can register a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players over the age of 21 in their official 25-man squad submissions. Failure to reduce the current count of 19 would leave Tottenham forced to omit senior international players from their Premier League and European squad lists for the first half of the campaign. Consequently, resolving outgoing deals for Takai, Sarr, or Richarlison has become an urgent operational priority for Spurs executives.
