Fabrizio Romano claims Kevin Danso would be open to leaving Tottenham for regular opportunities

Tottenham defender is attracting interest from a Premier League club.

It is clear that Tottenham Hotspur’s top priority heading into the final few days of the transfer window is to add more reinforcements to their forward line.

Roberto De Zerbi welcomed both Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City earlier this week, with the former becoming an instant hero at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful with a goal and an assist in the 5-1 thrashing of Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

Spurs have let go 10 players this summer. The defensive unit has been overhauled, with Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson arriving, while Cristian Romero, Luka Vuskovic, Radu Dragusin and Djed Spence departing the club. Now, it has emerged that there is a possibility of a defender’s late exit.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on Tottenham defender’s future

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Kevin Danso has been the subject of an offer from Sunderland. The north London club have rejected Sunderland’s offer of a season-long loan deal, but the defender is open to leaving N17 before the transfer window deadline next week for regular playing time.

“My understanding is that Kevin Danso would be open to leaving Tottenham in the final days of the summer transfer window,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“For Tottenham, he remains an important player. Obviously, at centre-back, Tottenham have several players for Premier League plus internal competition, domestic competition, not European football.

“And so, when you have Senesi, when you have Micky van de Ven, when you have Van Hecke and more options, obviously, is not easy for Kevin Danso to accept to be on the bench for most of the time.

“At the same time, for Roberto De Zerbi, he was always an important player before the summer transfer window, so, in the final part of the season last season, since De Zerbi arrived.

“Now, Danso wants to play more. So, let’s see what’s going to happen there.”

On Spurs rejecting Sunderland’s loan offer for Danso, Romano added: “Sunderland called for Kevin Danso.

“Tottenham said no to loan. So, we have to see what’s going to happen, but for sure, there is movement around Kevin Danso, and there would be some evolution.”

Roberto De Zerbi unwilling to sanction Danso’s late exit

Danso made his first appearance of the season in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic, coming on as a second-half substitute and scoring with his first touch. He scored a towering header to help Tottenham smash Charlton 5-1 in the second round of the Carabao Cup in what was his first goal for the club.

However, the Austrian international’s first-team prospects are likely to be limited this season after the signings of Senesi and Van Hecke, while Micky van de Ven has signed a lucrative contract and been named captain following Romero’s exit. It now remains to be seen whether Sunderland will continue their pursuit of the central defender after seeing their loan bid rejected.
