Tottenham suffer a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle as Spurs fail to build on their midweek Carabao Cup victory.

Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, failing to build momentum after their midweek 5-1 Carabao Cup win against Charlton Athletic. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi handed a full debut to new loan signing Omar Marmoush up front, while fellow arrival Savio missed out due to muscle fatigue. Meanwhile, Richarlison, Kevin Danso, and Pape Matar Sarr were left out of the matchday squad amid transfer speculation. Second-half strikes from Anthony Elanga and Yoanne Wissa secured the victory for the visitors.

Here are the Spurs player ratings following the Premier League clash:

Antonin Kinsky – 5: Could do little about Elanga’s pinpoint opening goal, but flapped at Wissa’s close-range finish for Newcastle’s second. Made late saves from Woltemade and Barnes.

Archie Gray – 6: Put in a solid performance at right-back with Pedro Porro playing further upfield. Was not directly involved in either Newcastle goal.

Jan Paul van Hecke – 6: Battled hard defensively and forced Hornicek into a save with a well-placed header. Continually tried to play progressive passes through the lines.

Micky van de Ven – 6: Received an early yellow card just two minutes in following a poor pass from Tonali. Denied Wissa with a crucial 25th-minute tackle, though showed occasional communication issues with Van Hecke.

Andy Robertson – 5: Offered an attacking threat down the left flank during the first half. However, he was knocked down by Dedic in the build-up to Newcastle’s opening goal.

Sandro Tonali – 3: Endured a difficult evening against his former club amid boos from the visiting supporters. Placed Van de Ven under pressure with an early loose pass and later played Wissa onside for Newcastle’s second goal.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 6: Worked hard in the deeper midfield position and kept play moving. Lost track of Wissa for Newcastle’s second goal.

Mateus Fernandes – 6: Played in the number 10 role and drove Spurs forward in moments. Almost recorded an assist when Van Hecke’s header was saved, and set up a late chance for Marmoush.

Pedro Porro – 7: Deployed higher up the pitch on the right, he was Spurs’ most active threat. Had a shot deflected over in the first half and forced a flying save from Hornicek in the second.

Mathys Tel – 5: Showed dangerous moments cutting inside, but lacked final delivery. Ended his performance by sending a free-kick high over the stand.

Omar Marmoush – 6: Grew into the match on his full debut up front. Linked play effectively, sent a long-range shot wide, and tested Hornicek with a late volley.

Substitutes

Mohammed Kudus – 6: Received a standing ovation upon returning from an eight-month injury absence. Beat his defender well but lacked match sharpness in the final third.

Destiny Udogie – 4: Struggled after coming on, failing to stop Woltemade from heading across the box for Newcastle’s second goal.

Mikey Moore – 5: Made little impact during his cameo other than sending one shot into the stands.

Dominic Solanke – 5: Saw little of the ball, though he had a late back-flick cleared off the line.
