Tottenham need to fend off Serie A competition for €50m rated AS Monaco striker amid intense transfer links

Tottenham are keen to bring in an additional striker before the transfer window shuts this week.

Tottenham are focused on ending the transfer window on a high note as the squad reshuffle continues at N17. The Lilywhites currently find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table following back-to-back defeats in their opening two matches of the season. Roberto de Zerbi’s men have failed to find the back of the net in either game, highlighting their struggles in front of goal against Brentford and Newcastle United.

So, it comes as no surprise that the North Londoners are keen on signing a new striker to bolster their attack this season. The club recently completed a double swoop from Manchester City that saw Omar Marmoush and Savio join De Zerbi’s squad on long-term deals. Both players are expected to play a crucial role in helping Spurs compete at the top end of the Premier League table this season after a dismal start to the campaign.

However, it is fair to suggest that the Lilywhites need an out-and-out striker who could compete with Dominic Solanke for a spot in the starting eleven. As of now, Spurs lack someone who can consistently find the back of the net and share the goal-scoring burden with Solanke and Omar Marmoush. De Zerbi’s team is crying out for a player who could link up play effectively and operate as a target man in the box by getting on the end of crosses.

Tottenham are keen on landing AS Monaco star Folarin Balogun this summer

Tottenham are hoping to go all-in and sign a new striker before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday. With Richarlison out of Roberto de Zerbi’s immediate plans at N17 this season, the Lilywhites are aiming to sign a long-term replacement who could fill the void left behind by the Brazilian. Richarlison has been linked with a potential move to Everton as he aims to get regular minutes while continuing to play in the Premier League.

Recent reports have linked Spurs with AS Monaco star Folarin Balogun. The Lilywhites believe he would be the perfect fit for Roberto de Zerbi’s system at N17. As a result, the North Londoners are now considering laying the groundwork for a potential bid. It is also believed that AS Monaco are open to letting the prolific striker leave the club if the right offer comes their way before the transfer window shuts this week.

However, Spurs would also have to fend off competition from other top clubs for the 25-year-old’s signature. As per Ekrem Konur (via X), Fiorentina and Atalanta have made enquiries about Folarin Balogun as the player faces an uncertain future at AS Monaco. The journalist also reports that the USMNT international is being valued at €50m by the Ligue 1 giants and would only be open to a sale if the right conditions are met by the interested parties in the coming hours.

There is no doubt that Folarin Balogun has immense potential and a high ceiling. He managed to showcase his talent for the USMNT during the FIFA World Cup this summer, scoring three goals in four appearances for his national team on the biggest stage. But Spurs are looking to sign players with Premier League experience, which the 25-year-old currently lacks. So, spending €50m on a player who may or may not perform well for the Lilywhites seems a bit risky, considering that the club urgently needs a prolific goal-scorer.
