Brentford are weighing up a move for Tottenham midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur have seen major changes at the club this summer, with eight new signings completed for head coach Roberto De Zerbi thus far.
First-team stars such as Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Djed Spence have all moved on, while academy talent Mikey Moore has been loaned out to FC Koln. The Lilywhites, who have started the season poorly with back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Newcastle United, are still looking to do some business before the transfer deadline on Tuesday, but there are also expected to be outgoings.
Richarlison has opened up on his desire to return to Everton, but that deal is in jeopardy after Spurs saw Iliman Ndiaye’s move hijacked by Manchester City. Kevin Danso is also expected to leave, with Sunderland showing a concrete interest in the central defender after he asked to leave for more regular first-team football. Now, another Tottenham player is also linked with an exit.
Brentford eye late swoop for Archie Gray
According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Brentford are showing late interest in Tottenham youngster Archie Gray.
Archie Gray was a target for Brentford in the summer of 2024. The Bees had then agreed a deal with Leeds United to sign the Englishman, only for Spurs to swoop in and hijack the deal. After two summers, they still hold an interest in the versatile midfielder.
Spurs are believed to want to keep Gray, having turned down an approach from Newcastle United earlier in the summer. The 20-year-old has been added to the newly-formed five-man leadership group under Roberto De Zerbi. In the absence of Micky van de Ven, the England Under-21 international captained the North London club in the 2-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend of the season.
He has started the first two Premier League games at right-back, with De Zerbi a big fan of Gray’s versatility. At the end of last season, the Italian tactician praised Gray’s talent and leadership skills, saying that he was certain the youngster could become the future of the club.
Truly, Gray has all the tools to become one of the best players in the world in midfield. The Durham native does have a lot of raw talent and was undoubtedly Tottenham’s best player in the first half of last season.
Given how highly he’s rated within the club and across the English circuit, De Zerbi and Co. are unlikely to change their stance on him. That said, it remains to be seen if Brentford table a proposal for Gray on deadline day.
