According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Lucas Bergvall is on Chelsea’s midfield shortlist to replace Enzo Fernandez, who is set to complete a mammoth deadline day transfer to Manchester City. The Blues have seen their efforts to sign AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Manu Kone of AS Roma rebuffed so far.
Now, Bergvall is understood to be under consideration by the Stamford Bridge chiefs. The Blues were keen on the Swedish international’s signature earlier this year. Despite the 20-year-old establishing himself as an integral part of Spurs’ squad over the past two seasons, Chelsea’s recruitment department has continued to monitor his situation in North London closely.

While Bergvall’s technical ability, ball-carrying, pressing, and energetic box-to-box style made him a key fixture in previous campaigns, De Zerbi’s preferred system demands positional discipline, composure, vertical ball distribution and tactical nous. This shift in tactical priorities has naturally raised questions regarding guaranteed starting minutes for the Swedish talent, who favoured a move away from White Hart Lane earlier in the transfer window.
Both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were keen to sign the 20-year-old after he had expressed his desire to leave Tottenham for greener pastures. However, following internal discussions, De Zerbi has managed to assure Bergvall of consistent playing time to aid his development.
