Dropping points in the dying moments of a fiercely contested North London derby match always stings deeply for an ambitious squad.
The N17 faithful arrived at Hotspur Way expecting fireworks against their bitter local rivals. Manager Matt Sharman watched his Tottenham Under 19 Squad deliver a thrilling performance that ultimately ended in a frustrating 2-2 draw. The young Lilywhites completely dominated the early exchanges on Sunday afternoon.
A blistering start rewarded the hosts inside just two minutes of action. Holly Mae Elmes cleverly found Heidi Hills out wide before the ball reached Jhanaie Pierre. The exciting prospect calmly slotted her finish into the bottom corner to net her third goal in three appearances.
The reigning league champions refused to crumble under the intense early pressure. Freya Woods secured an equaliser for the visitors shortly after the half hour mark. The North Londoners responded brilliantly before the interval when Eloise Summers Mee confidently converted a crucial penalty kick.
Late Defensive Lapses Ruin A Deserved Victory
The second half developed into an incredibly tight tactical battle with few clear scoring opportunities. The defensive unit looked totally comfortable until a late lapse in concentration proved costly. Angelina Bramble ruthlessly capitalised on a loose clearance with seven minutes remaining to snatch a completely undeserved point.
The manager focused heavily on the positives during his post match press duties. He told club media that the overall performance was fantastic despite the late setback. The proud coach explained, “We are leaving the match where we are gutted that we didn’t get the three points”.
Matt firmly believes the current squad unity absolutely fuels their early success. He enthusiastically added, “I am just really proud of the team, whether they got on the pitch, didn’t get on the pitch, the people not making the squad, every single member of our team are so important and what they bring is so valuable to the group”. Building serious league momentum is completely vital for this talented generation of academy stars.
The unbeaten run remains firmly intact despite the obvious frustration of dropping late points. The ambitious coaching staff will undoubtedly demand an immediate winning response. The squad now completely focuses on London City Lionesses this Wednesday evening.
