Tottenham will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table after losing their opening two matches of the new season. The Lilywhites have not shown any signs of improvement under Roberto De Zerbi, despite the club spending almost £322m on new players. The North Londoners have failed to find the back of the net in either game and have been completely outplayed by their opponents in recent weeks.
Roberto de Zerbi’s men have not managed to show any signs of improvement at the start of this season despite bringing in eight new players. The patterns of play have been quite predictable, and it seems as though the Lilywhites are running out of ideas in the final third of the pitch. It is fair to suggest that the high-profile signings have yet to hit the ground running this season and are clearly lacking match fitness despite having a full preseason under their belts.
The recent home defeat to Newcastle United raised some alarm bells in and around N17 as Roberto de Zerbi’s men were tactically outplayed on home soil. The Magpies brought more energy and desire to snatch all three points compared to the Spurs team, who were still finding their feet during the game. There are still 36 Premier League matches left for Spurs to show signs of progress under Roberto de Zerbi and compete for European spots. But it is quite clear now that the Lilywhites cannot afford to drop too many points in games where they should be dominating possession and scoring goals for fun. The players must get back to basics, and the new signings need to quickly find their feet at N17 as fans wait anxiously to see De Zerbi steady the ship at Hotspur Way.
Harry Redknapp believes Roberto de Zerbi will eventually get his side back on track and help the North Londoners achieve European qualification at the end of this season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Redknapp said,
“I don’t think so they have a cause for concern. Listen to the manager there, I think he’s got a jigsaw puzzle there that he needs to put together. I think once everything settles in, de Zerbi will get his best team sorted out. The players will start to gel and know each other. I’m confident and I still think top 5 is possible.”
The former Spurs boss added,
“When everybody’s fit, they do have some exciting attacking players. So, I’m really very hopeful for the season for Spurs. It’s been a disastrous start. I think they’ll be fine and I think they’ll be strong. I can definitely see them making the European places this year.”

As Harry Redknapp rightly suggests, the new signings will take some time to gel together as the Italian tactician takes his time to figure out his strongest team that could compete in the Premier League.
The timely return of Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski means that the Lilywhites now have some much-needed depth in the final third of the pitch. The onus now falls on De Zerbi to get the best out of his players, given the fact that the Italian tactician has an exciting squad to work with at N17. And if the North Londoners do start performing well, then there is no doubt that they could easily compete for Champions League qualification this season.
