Tottenham have confirmed the departure of Pape Matar Sarr on loan to Juventus.
Tottenham Hotspur have been among the busiest Premier League clubs on the transfer deadline day. They have struck an agreement with Chelsea for the double signings of Tosin Adarabioyo and Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Tosin is set to join Spurs on a £7 million deal, while Mykhaylo will arrive on a season-long loan with an option to buy. Simultaneously, the Lilywhites are also working on some outgoings, and they have announced the departure of one player now.
Pape Matar Sarr signs for Juventus
Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has completed a loan move to Juventus, with the Italian club holding an option to buy that will become mandatory if certain conditions are met. The deal has been confirmed by our club’s official website.
Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the buy option for Pape Matar Sarr is worth around €28m in total. Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi revealed last week that the Senegalese international was one of three players to have asked to leave the club before the transfer deadline. The 23-year-old has not featured in any of Tottenham’s three games so far this season due to a minor injury. He has now brought his five-year spell in north London to an end after making more than 140 appearances for Spurs.
Sarr has not been short of suitors throughout the summer. Aston Villa, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and AS Monaco were all interested, while Galatasaray had a bid rejected for the combative midfielder. He was also linked to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli. Eventually, Juventus have managed to lure the African talent to Serie A, where he will hope to get regular starting opportunities under manager Luciano Spalletti.
The former FC Metz man has to quickly adapt to the tactical demands of Serie A football. He has the qualities to thrive and establish himself as a regular starter in Spalletti’s system in Turin. The Senegalese faces a big challenge to prove himself and fulfil the conditions that make his stay at Juventus permanent in 2027.
De Zerbi was never in a position to guarantee Sarr a regular spot in his midfield after the big-money purchases of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in July. So, it is a wise decision taken by the 23-year-old to leave Tottenham for greener pastures in Europe to resurrect his career.
