Dane Scarlett has left Tottenham to join Leyton Orient on a long-term contract.
Tottenham Hotspur have followed up a second consecutive 17th-placed finish in the Premier League with a sea change in their squad. There has been a massive squad overhaul behind the scenes, with the Spurs hierarchy finally backing their head coach and putting their money where their mouths are.
The transfer window began neatly, with the North London outfit racing out of the blocks to complete six signings and spending £237 million in the process. They then added further attacking options late on, including Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhaylo Mudryk, whilst replacing defender Kevin Danso with Tosin Adarabioyo as the final signing of the window.
At the same time, there have been plenty of departures. From Luka Vuskovic and Djed Spence to Cristian Romero, Tottenham earned millions from player sales, loan fees and departures. And there were a couple of exits on deadline day too.
Dane Scarlett seals Leyton Orient move
Tottenham have officially confirmed the departure of Dane Scarlett to Leyton Orient. He has signed a long-term contract with Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.
A product of the famed Tottenham academy, Dane Scarlett progressed through the youth ranks to make his first-team debut in 2020. He made his first-team debut against Ludogorets in the Europa League in November 2020, becoming the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive match for the North London club.
The Englishman made 27 senior appearances in all competitions, scoring once. That solitary strike came in the 3-0 win over Swedish club Elfsborg in January, playing his part in the Lilywhites’ journey to Europa League success under Ange Postecoglou. Scarlett has represented England at youth level, from U16s to U21s, winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2022.
Having spent time on loan with Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Oxford United and Hibernian, it was perhaps the right time for Scarlett to leave his boyhood club permanently and head for greener pastures to kickstart his career. The 22-year-old has chosen to join Leyton Orient in League One.
Having signed a long-term contract, Scarlett will hopefully manages to build a successful career at Brisbane Road, as he never looked like cutting the mustard at Tottenham. At 22, he has plenty of time to kickstart his career and live up to his potential. The Englishman’s previous experiences of playing in the lower leagues of English football should richly benefit him at Orient.
