Tottenham have announced the departure of George Abbott on a season-long loan to Mansfield Town.
The transfer window officially closed at 11 pm on Tuesday, and Tottenham Hotspur turned out to be among the busiest Premier League clubs throughout the summer.
Spurs completed several incomings and outgoings on the transfer deadline day. They signed Tosin Adarabioyo and Mykhaylo Mudryk from Chelsea. Tosin has joined the Lilywhites permanently, while Mudryk arrived on a season-long loan with an option to buy in 2027.
A few departures also took place on Tuesday. Dane Scarlett left Tottenham to join Leyton Orient in League One permanently. Damola Ajayi completed a loan move to Barnet to get valuable men’s football under his belt. Fellow academy talent George Abbott also secured a temporary exit.
Mansfield Town re-sign George Abbott
Tottenham have officially announced that George Abbott has completed a season-long loan move to League One side Mansfield Town.
The 21-year-old re-joins Mansfield Town, having spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at the One Call Stadium, scoring once in 11 appearances in all competitions. Before that, the midfielder had loan stints with Wycombe Wanderers and Notts County.
Abbott enjoyed a fantastic spell with Notts County, where he registered six goals and seven assists in 44 appearances. He helped Notts County to the League Two play-offs and also claimed the EFL Goal of the Season award for a sensational strike against Accrington Stanley. The central midfielder now returns to Mansfield, a similar setting which should help him settle down quickly. This will give the youngster the continuity and consistency he requires to aid his development.
However, Abbott is currently recovering from a serious quad injury sustained in April 2026, which prematurely ended his previous loan spell with the Stags. Mansfield boss Nigel Clough said Abbott “won’t be fully fit when he arrives” back at One Call Stadium, but added that he will be available in “a few weeks”.
“We were hugely impressed with him last season and hope he’ll complement our midfield for the remainder of the season,” Nigel Clough told the Stags official website.
The return of Abbott gives Clough’s side a big boost in midfield. The versatile Tottenham academy talent will be raring to return from injury and make a strong impression this season. The One Call Stadium faithful will have high expectations of the talented Englishman.
