Tottenham signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea on deadline day.
Tottenham Hotspur completed a double swoop for Chelsea squad members, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Mykhaylo Mudryk arriving on transfer deadline day.
Mykhaylo Mudryk has been signed on a season-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next year. Tosin Adarabioyo followed Mudryk from Chelsea to Spurs just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut.
The 28-year-old was identified as a replacement for Kevin Danso, who sealed a deadline-day loan switch to Sunderland on an initial loan deal worth £2.5m along with a £22.25m obligation to buy next summer. Roberto De Zerbi was forced to sanction Danso’s exit after the Austrian had personally asked to let him leave. Thus, the Tottenham chiefs acted swiftly and signed Tosin to ensure De Zerbi’s side have adequate cover in their backline.
Tottenham paid a higher fee for Tosin Adarabioyo than initially reported
Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham had agreed a deal worth £7m plus add-ons with Chelsea for Tosin.
However, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge on X, the deal is worth slightly more than what those initial reports suggested. He has revealed that the Lilywhites have agreed to pay an initial £10m, with an additional £2m in add-ons, if certain conditions are met.
This means the overall package stands at £12m, but it would not bother De Zerbi. This is because the Italian tactician is confident that the defender will quickly demonstrate his qualities to Tottenham supporters. Tosin believes the move comes at an important stage of his career and is looking forward to playing under the Tottenham head coach.
The 28-year-old’s top-flight experience will be valuable to Spurs. After four seasons at Fulham, the former England youth international moved to Chelsea on a free transfer in 2024. He made 70 appearances across two campaigns at Stamford Bridge, but his time was beset by injuries and inconsistency.
Tosin will want to keep himself fit and available in N17. He may have come in as a squad option, but there is no doubt that the central defender will have a big role to play when the fixtures pile up. De Zerbi could be forced to rotate his squad to keep everyone fresh and firing, and that is when Tosin’s presence will be vital.
Hopefully, at the end of the day, the Tottenham bosses do not regret paying a £12m package to our bitter rivals for the defender.
