Tottenham are planning to hire a new sporting director.

Tottenham Hotspur fans must be delighted with how the summer transfer window panned out. After the horrors of last season, the intent shown by the club’s hierarchy to refurbish the squad should please the fanbase.

The North London club’s director of football operations Rafi Moersen played a key role in the summer’s recruitment, alongside CEO Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange. Following Fabio Paratici’s resignation from the co-sporting director’s role at Tottenham to join Fiorentina at the end of the January transfer window, Lange has acted as Spurs’ sole sporting director.

Evidently, the Dane has done a good job this summer, but with the club embarking on a new era after significantly rebuilding the squad under Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham bosses are now eyeing a new sporting director.

Tottenham contact former Inter Milan sporting director

According to an exclusive report from reliable Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham have contacted Piero Ausilio to become their new sporting director after his departure from Inter Milan.

Piero Ausilio has left the post of Inter Milan’s sporting director after 28 long years. This came as a shock to many associated with the Italian champions, with the club and Ausilio failing to agree on a new contract. The 54-year-old’s contract with the Nerazzurri runs out in June 2027, and the two parties have failed to reach an agreement to extend it.

The experienced Italian has already received a couple of enquiries, and one of those has come from Tottenham. The Hotspur Way chiefs are looking to appoint a new sporting director who may be expected to work alongside Lange. They want Ausilio to become a part of the club that wants to grow and become competitive again in the Premier League.

De Zerbi has a close personal friendship with the 54-year-old and could play a key role in convincing him to take up the job at Tottenham. The Spurs boss had a massive say in the recruitment, pulling the strings from behind the scenes to convince players to become a part of his project this summer. This demonstrates that the club’s hierarchy and Venkatesham fully trust the Italian tactician and have given him the keys to build a long-term project in N17.

So, it goes without saying that De Zerbi is certain to have a big say on who Tottenham’s next sporting director is. The Lilywhites’ interest in Ausilio makes complete sense. Throughout his spell at Inter, Ausilio has often operated on a shoestring budget. Despite limited spending power, he has time and again recruited smartly and backed the managers sufficiently. The 54-year-old has played a pivotal role in the Nerazzurri winning three league titles in recent years.

Highly rated and experienced with a great eye for talent, Ausilio can add much-needed direction to Tottenham’s transfer strategy.
