Turkish club Trabzonspor are pushing to sign Tottenham forward Richarlison before the September 4 transfer deadline.
The Premier League transfer window closed on Tuesday evening, and Tottenham Hotspur submitted their Premier League squad for the 2026/27 season on Thursday.
Dejan Kulusevski has been included in the squad by head coach Roberto De Zerbi, which came as great news for the Tottenham fans. Richarlison was excluded from the 25-man list as he is now free to explore a move abroad. Omar Marmoush has arrived from Manchester City on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer, nudging Richarlison further down the pecking order.
It seemed as though a return to the Brazilian’s former club, Everton, was in the offing in the final stages of the transfer window, with Tottenham in turn lining up a move for Iliman Ndiaye. But both deals collapsed, with Ndiaye subsequently joining Manchester City and Richarlison being frozen in the cold.
Trabzonspor pushing to sign Richarlison
Trabzonspor have been showing concrete interest in the 29-year-old in the last couple of days. They have had a couple of bids rejected for the forward, although the Turkish club have agreed personal terms with the player.
Richarlison wants to join Trabzonspor, which is evident with his camp agreeing on personal terms in principle with the Super Lig outfit. The Brazilian international has been ‘pressuring’ Tottenham to sanction his move to Trabzonspor, who are looking to add another marquee name to their attack after the capture of Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah.
Despite a couple of bids knocked back by Spurs, Trabzonspor have not given up on Richarlison. According to Turkish journalist Hasan Tuncel, the Richarlison ‘chapter is still not closed’.
Roberto De Zerbi publicly confirmed last month that the South American forward had expressed a clear desire to depart Tottenham. The Italian tactician spoke out after leaving the striker out of the matchday squad for the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United.
Richarlison has failed to live up to the high expectations and price tag at Tottenham following his move from Everton in 2022. Constant injuries, fitness concerns and inconsistency have not allowed the 29-year-old to take his game to the next level. He was one of the club’s rare bright spots in an otherwise disastrous last season, bagging 12 goals in all competitions.
The ex-Everton star being excluded from the club’s Premier League squad is a clear indicator that he is no longer being considered by De Zerbi. While the summer transfer window has closed in major European leagues, there is still a chance for Richarlison to leave Spurs. This is because the Turkish window is open until September 4, with Trabzonspor trying to secure his signing.
