Guglielmo Vicario reveals that internal dynamics contributed to his Tottenham exit as he begins a new chapter at Juventus.
Guglielmo Vicario has opened up for the first time regarding his summer exit from Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that several unaligned internal dynamics ultimately paved the way for his departure to Juventus. As reported by Last Word on Spurs on X, the 29-year-old Italian shot-stopper reflected on his decision to leave North London following a transformative period for the club under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Vicario, who secured a loan move to Serie A giants Juventus during the summer transfer window, was diplomatic yet revealing when asked about the circumstances surrounding his departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The goalkeeper made it clear that he prefers to look forward rather than dwell on past events in North London:
“I don’t like to talk about the past or what should or could have been done. There were some dynamics that didn’t align, probably for various reasons that don’t make sense to mention now. I want to focus on the present and try to maintain balance in this new adventure.”
De Zerbi’s Cultural Reset and the Summer Exit Policy
Vicario’s comments align directly with the squad overhaul initiated by De Zerbi upon his appointment in March. During initial face-to-face meetings with senior figures, both Vicario and former club captain Cristian Romero voiced their desires to pursue new challenges away from Spurs.
Rather than keeping discontented players within the squad, De Zerbi established a firm agreement: if they gave their total commitment to help Tottenham maintain top-flight status through the end of the campaign, he would facilitate their summer departures. Spurs honored that promise, allowing Romero to join Atletico Madrid and enabling Vicario to return to Italy with Juventus.
Following Vicario’s departure, Tottenham entrusted the starting role between the posts to Antonin Kinsky as part of an extensive rebuild exceeding £400 million. The club purposefully targeted players committed to De Zerbi’s demanding tactical setup and high-intensity dressing room standards.
While Vicario begins his new chapter in Turin, Tottenham continue to adjust to De Zerbi’s rigorous expectations. Vicario’s departure stands as a prominent symbol of the sweeping cultural reset taking place in North London as Spurs look to build a resilient foundation for the future.
