Tottenham were one of several clubs to explore deal for Wolves star who was a bright spark in their otherwise doomed 2025/26 campaign

Tottenham enquired about highly-rated talent during the past summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur made sweeping changes to their squad this summer, bringing 10 new players through the door, while also allowing several players to depart.

Spurs were fortunate to escape relegation at the expense of West Ham on the final day of last season, and to avoid such a situation again, the hierarchy have backed head coach Roberto De Zerbi to the hilt. As expected, De Zerbi’s expensively overhauled side is facing issues at the start of the season and are yet to gel on the pitch, picking up just one point from their first three Premier League games.

Despite signing three new attackers in the final weeks of the transfer window, creating chances and converting them continues to be a headache for De Zerbi. Summer signings Savio and Omar Marmoush are settling in at the club, but a player like Mathys Tel was expected to bring more cutting edge and dynamism to Tottenham’s attack. However, that hasn’t been the case, and Tel’s latest struggle came in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham explored move for highly-rated Wolves teenager

The Spurs bosses solely targeted players with Premier League experience in the summer. Every single one of those that arrived in N17 have got the know-how of Premier League football. It has now emerged that they also had their sights on a teenager attacker who impressed in the Midlands last season.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham were among several English top-flight clubs that made contact regarding Wolves attacker Mateus Mane. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton, Manchester United, Liverpool, Brighton, Newcastle United and Brentford have all made enquiries for the talented youngster.

One of the most exciting young players in Wolves’ squad, Mateus Mane was a rare bright spark in an otherwise gloomy 2025/26 campaign. He registered three goals and an assist in 27 Premier League appearances, but couldn’t help the Wanderers preserve their top-flight status. Despite several clubs wanting to sign him this summer, Wolves managed to keep hold of their long-term valuable asset.

The report adds that the Black County outfit believes that staying in the Midlands and getting regular senior experience would be the best step for Mane’s development. And they were encouraged by the player and his entourage’s similar mindset.

Spurs must revive their interest in Mane

For Tottenham, Mane would sort of hit one of the most pressing needs at Hotspur Way. The left-wing department certainly requires real investment from the chiefs at N17, with Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons out with ACL injuries, whilst Tel not demonstrating enough.

That is where Mane’s directness, pressing bite, elusive movement and the goal danger he showed at Wolves in the Premier League come into the picture. The England youth international can operate in several attacking positions, and such flexibility also matches what De Zerbi wants from his forwards. He is still raw in certain aspects of his game, but there’s no denying the high potential of the Wolves talent.

That said, the Tottenham bosses must not hesitate to revive their interest in Mane when the transfer window reopens.
