Mick Brown feels a Premier League club could take a gamble on former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma

Former Tottenham midfielder could be snapped up on a free transfer by Premier League clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur made wholesale changes to their squad over the summer transfer window. They backed head coach Roberto De Zerbi to the hilt with 10 new faces. Simultaneously, several faces departed White Hart Lane.

Some of those left the club on loan, whereas others were sold. A few of them were released as well, and Yves Bissouma was one of them. The combative midfielder’s four-year spell at Spurs expired at the end of June, and the club decided to release him. The Malian international hardly got any game time last season due to a combination of injuries and international competition.

Yves Bissouma’s four years in North London proved to be a major disappointment, but his reputation in the Premier League remains intact, which is why he could now be poached by another top-flight club.

Ex-scout says a Premier League club could take a gamble on Yves Bissouma

Bissouma is currently a free agent after leaving Spurs in the summer, having played over 100 games for the club since he joined from Brighton in 2022.

Most recently, Chelsea made an approach to sign the midfielder, but haven’t progressed with a move thus far. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have also shown interest in the former Tottenham man, who is also being monitored by several Italian, Turkish and Saudi Pro League clubs.

Former scout Mick Brown claims that a number of clubs have considered Bissouma’s free agency situation and could be tempted to take a punt on him as he wants to stay in England.

“I’m surprised nobody has made a move for Yves Bissouma yet,” Mick Brown told Football Insider.

“He had a difficult end to life at Tottenham, it seemed none of the managers they brought in fancied him, but that doesn’t change the fact he is still a good player.

“He looked terrific when he was at Brighton, and things have gone a bit downhill for him since then, but he’s got talent and a lot of experience in the Premier League. So, I don’t doubt there will be a team who are willing to take a gamble on signing him, and let me be clear, it is a bit of a gamble because of his fitness.

“Bissouma wants to stay in the Premier League, that’s why there have been talks with these different clubs, including Chelsea. So, if any club wants to make a move for him, they would have a good chance even if there is maybe interest from clubs in other countries as well.”

Bissouma was rightly released by Tottenham

Bissouma had arrived at Tottenham with a lot of fanfare from Brighton in the summer of 2022. While he was a regular fixture in the side during his first two seasons and played a key role in helping Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in 2025, the African star’s time in N17 was plagued by inconsistency, injuries and off-field problems.

So, it was the right decision by the Tottenham officials to release the Malian midfielder at the end of last season. Bissouma has received offers from overseas already following his exit from N17. However, it has been revealed that he remains keen on continuing his career in the Premier League.
