Tottenham could raid the Bundesliga for a highly-rated creative midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur made significant changes to their forward line this summer, with Omar Marmoush, Savio and Mykhaylo Mudryk arriving through the door, while Richarlison has been omitted from the 25-man Premier League squad ahead of an impending exit.
There are still doubts over whether the present forward line has enough creativity and goals in it, with Spurs failing to score in their opening three Premier League games. Marmoush and Savio have shown promise but not enough cutting edge in the final third, whereas Dominic Solanke has been restricted to appearances off the bench.
James Maddison has missed the last three games in all competitions after suffering a shoulder injury on the opening weekend of the campaign, while Dejan Kulusevski is nearing a return to fitness after being sidelined since May 2025. It has now emerged that the Lilywhites are keeping tabs on African talent who has previously played in the Premier League.
Tottenham eye move for VfB Stuttgart playmaker
According to a report from German outlet Fussball Daten, Tottenham are among some Premier League clubs monitoring VfB Stuttgart playmaker Bilal El Khannouss, who is a man for special moments. Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Everton are all interested in the player as well.
Bilal El Khannouss has performed very well for VfB Stuttgart since initially moving on loan from Leicester City in 2025. He registered 16 goal involvements in 42 appearances in his first season with Stuttgart. The Moroccan international’s loan from Leicester City was made permanent in May, with him penning a contract until 2030 with the Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old has started the 2026/27 campaign well with a goal in two Bundesliga appearances. The report adds that El Khannouss could cost in the region of €55 million, and that price is expected to rise if he continues to perform consistently for Stuttgart.
The Moroccan talent has been on Tottenham’s radar since 2025. The North Londoners had identified the former Leicester City man as an option to improve their creativity before pivoting to Xavi Simons. However, their interest in El Khannouss has not vanished, and as Maddison is injury-prone, Kulusevski has been out of action since May 2025, and Simons is sidelined with an ACL rupture until March 2026, Tottenham could look to sign the Stuttgart playmaker in 2027.
Primarily a No.10, El Khannouss can operate on the flanks and provide energy, flair, creativity and goals to Roberto De Zerbi’s side. The 22-year-old’s previous Premier League experience could come in handy to settle in quickly and make an instant impact at White Hart Lane. However, having broken the bank this summer, it will be intriguing to see if our club officials are ready to meet Stuttgart’s €55 million valuation of the player.
