Journo urges Tottenham to ‘remain patient’ with ‘top manager’ Roberto De Zerbi as there are signs of improvement at N17

Roberto de Zerbi’s Tottenham side are hoping to register their first league win of the season against Everton this weekend

Three games into the new Premier League season, and Tottenham are yet to win a single match this time around. The Lilywhites have endured a slow start after being beaten by Brentford and Newcastle United in the first two weeks of the new campaign. Last weekend’s hard-fought draw against Nottingham Forest offered a glimpse of hope for the North Londoners as they finally registered their first point under Roberto De Zerbi this season.

However, Spurs are yet to score a goal in the league this season despite spending an abnormal amount of money on new attackers. So, there are still some issues on the pitch that need to be addressed by De Zerbi as we slowly head into the crucial stages of the campaign. The Lilywhites, in all honesty, played their part in backing Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer market by signing players who could make an instant impact at N17 this season.

So, the onus now falls on the Italian tactician to get the best out of his players and help the North London club compete at the top end of the Premier League table. A slow start to the new season is something that not many fans saw coming, especially after the major squad overhaul that Spurs went through in the summer. Match-going supporters will now hope that the players continue adapting to De Zerbi’s playing style and play front-foot, attacking football in the coming weeks.

Roberto de Zerbi needs time to work his magic at Tottenham

Roberto de Zerbi has done more than enough to warrant some extra time to get Spurs back to winning ways in the Premier League. The Italian tactician, almost single-handedly, helped the Lilywhites escape relegation during the business end of last season. And after a long summer and a major squad overhaul, it is important not to forget that the 47-year-old might take some time to help the players understand his philosophy and playing style.

Jack Pitt-Brooke has now urged the fans to remain patient with Roberto de Zerbi, as the Italian tactician is well-equipped to handle the constant scrutiny that comes with the job at N17. Speaking on talkSPORT, Pitt-Brooke said,

“I think they are slowly becoming more of a team although they’re not creating enough chances. But it’s just a whole new team. He’s bought ten new players in and they’ve tried to do two- or three-years’ worth of work in one window. They are some ways away from being a good team at the moment, but they do have building blocks in place.”

The Spurs correspondent added,

“They’ve got a top manager and I think they’ve got some top players and a very good squad. And I think if they just trust and back De Zerbi and give him the time and patience, then I do think he’ll figure it out. I think he’s good enough.”

How much time is too much time for Roberto de Zerbi?

Tottenham have done well to back Roberto de Zerbi in the transfer market by bringing in players who could instantly hit the ground running at N17. There are some well-established names who have walked through the doors at Hotspur Way this summer, giving the Italian tactician some much-needed help in getting the club back to the top end of the Premier League table. So, the responsibility now falls on De Zerbi to get the best out of these players in the coming weeks.

A slow start to the season has seen the North Londoners drop into the bottom half of the league table. This cannot continue for much longer, and De Zerbi needs to make sure his team is going toe-to-toe with its rivals and getting back to winning ways. If results do not improve in the coming weeks, then there is a strong possibility that the Spurs hierarchy will look for a managerial change midway through the campaign, just like they did with Thomas Frank last year.
