‘Absolutely diabolical’ – Tottenham slammed for failing to score again, this time against Everton

Tottenham were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at home.

Tottenham Hotspur fired another blank after being frustrated by Everton in a 0-0 draw at home on Saturday evening. This extended the Roberto De Zerbi-managed side’s winless start to the new Premier League season to four matches.

A chorus of boos greeted the full-time whistle after Spurs failed to score for a fourth consecutive league match. It is the first time in Tottenham’s history they have failed to score in the opening four games of the season.

The honours were even in North London where the home side’s bright start failed to translate into clear-cut openings, before Everton missed two second-half opportunities via Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Brennan Johnson. Substitute Lucas Bergvall almost won it for Tottenham in the 89th minute with an effort from outside the box which Jordan Pickford did well to push behind.

Jamie Redknapp slams Tottenham for firing another blank

Spurs spent heavily to bolster every area of the squad over the summer. They brought in a few attackers to address the side’s goalscoring conundrum from last season. So far, it hasn’t borne fruit, as Tottenham’s goal drought reached 360 minutes.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp labelled De Zerbi’s team “diabolical” after the draw against Everton. Summer signings including Savio, Omar Marmoush, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali were all unable to make a breakthrough, and Jamie Redknapp was not at all impressed by a performance that saw the Lilywhites booed off the pitch.

“I thought Tottenham would have problems this season, but not in the goal-scoring department. With players like Solanke, Marmoush, Maddison and even midfielders like Tonali, Maddison and Fernandes, you would think they would somehow be able to get a goal,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports (h/t BBC Sport).

“To not score a Premier League goal in six hours of football is absolutely diabolical from Tottenham.”

Tottenham’s winless start to the season continues

After opening the door to strike partnership featuring Solanke and Marmoush, De Zerbi named the duo in the first XI vs. Everton, hoping the duo would connect and break Tottenham’s goalscoring duck. Marmoush started in a withdrawn role as he dropped deep, moved wide and popped up inside the box. However, the Egyptian’s failed to really combine with Solanke in the final third, as the Toffees defended very well.

Savio was the hosts’ brightest spot in attack, constantly troubling Everton with his dribbling, movement, speed and flair. The Brazilian did not get ample support from fellow attackers Marmoush and Solanke, while substitutes Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel were sub-par.

No goals across the opening four league games is such an ignominious run, and it has happened for the first time in our club’s history. After another insipid attacking display, fans rightly showed their displeasure at the end of the full-time whistle.
