Tottenham are hoping to add more firepower to their attack in the upcoming January transfer window.
Tottenham did well to bring in attacking reinforcements towards the business end of the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites managed to lure in some world-class talent and give Roberto de Zerbi the opportunity to build a strong attacking team that could compete at the top end of the Premier League table. For a team that scored only 48 goals in the league last season, it was important for the North Londoners to focus on signing attacking players who could add more fluidity in the final third this time around.
Spurs did not shy away from splashing the cash on new signings this summer. The Lilywhites spent £85m on Savio, brought in Omar Marmoush on an initial loan deal (with a £65m buy-option), and also signed Mykhailo Mudryk on loan, which could be converted into a permanent deal next year. On the other hand, the North Londoners focused on adding more creativity to the side by landing Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for £85m and £100m respectively.
However, despite spending an abnormal amount of money on new players, the Lilywhites are still struggling to find their feet in the final third of the pitch. Spurs are one of only three teams yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League this season, with Coventry City and Aston Villa being the other two. The North Londoners are creating chances and playing forward passes under De Zerbi, but the only thing missing is the final product.
Tottenham keen on signing Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram
It comes as no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. With Richarlison falling out with Roberto de Zerbi and being linked with a late exit from N17, the Lilywhites will surely look to strengthen their attack for the second half of the campaign in the coming months. The North Londoners cannot rely on Dominic Solanke to lead the line for the entire season, given that the England international is too injury-prone.
As per Ekrem Konur (via X), Spurs are keen on signing Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer. However, it is believed that the 29-year-old rejected the chance to move to the Middle East, claiming that he wanted to test himself in the Premier League after entering the prime years of his career. As a result, top English clubs, including the Lilywhites, are monitoring his situation at the San Siro this season.
Konur also reports that Spurs are not the only ones willing to fight for Marcus Thuram’s signature in the coming months. Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also keen on landing the Frenchman as both clubs aim to strengthen their attack for the second half of the campaign. As of now, Thuram is not forcing an exit from Inter Milan, but the Serie A giants could look to entertain offers in the winter if a club matches the €60m valuation for the 29-year-old.
A good fit at N17?
Marcus Thuram has been producing consistent numbers on the big stage for quite some time now. The Frenchman has formed a strong partnership with Lautaro Martinez up front for Inter Milan, helping the Serie A giants reach new heights in recent seasons. Just last season, the 29-year-old managed to score 18 goals and provide eight assists in 44 matches for the Nerazzurri. Now entering his peak years, the prolific forward would surely suit Spurs’ playing style under Roberto de Zerbi if he does decide to make the switch to N17.
Thuram is a modern centre-forward who likes to run into channels and cause problems for centre-backs in the final third of the pitch. The Frenchman is best suited to playing as a target man, holding up play for his team and linking well with the wide attackers. He is physically strong, has the ability to play in tight spaces, has good movement in the opposition box, and possesses aerial dominance. All in all, the 29-year-old would be a massive upgrade on Richarlison if Spurs do decide to land him in January.
