Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi is not being able to get the best out of his attacking players
Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi is under immense pressure to deliver quick results in the Premier League this season. Under his guidance, the Lilywhites are now winless in their opening four league matches, leaving the club in the bottom half of the table. To make matters worse, the North Londoners are struggling to find the back of the net this campaign, having failed to score in the league for more than 400 minutes. Joao Palhinha’s winner against Everton in May remains the last goal that De Zerbi’s men have scored in the Premier League.
Despite splashing huge amounts of cash on a major squad rebuild this summer, Spurs are still finding it difficult to build momentum in the Premier League and return to winning ways under Roberto de Zerbi. The attack is completely misfiring, while the players are taking their time to adapt to the Italian tactician’s playing style. As a result, the North Londoners are already losing ground on their rivals in their bid to compete at the top end of the league table.
As per Squawka (via X), Spurs have attempted 51 shots on goal in the Premier League this season without scoring a single goal. The Lilywhites lead all other teams in this metric, with Coventry City being the only other side to have failed to find the net despite attempting 41 shots. This shows that the North Londoners are regularly getting into promising positions in the final third. However, the only thing missing is the final product.
Roberto de Zerbi’s troubles at Tottenham continue to grow
Tottenham’s lacklustre form in the final third means that Roberto de Zerbi is constantly trying everything he can to get the attack clicking at N17. The players are simply unable to find the confidence needed to make a difference on the pitch. The Italian tactician has already tried different combinations and partnerships in the final third, making constant changes to his starting eleven in recent weeks.
Jamie Redknapp has now sympathised with De Zerbi, claiming that the Spurs boss is doing everything he can to ensure that the Lilywhites start scoring and return to winning ways in the Premier League. Speaking on the BBC, Redknapp said,
“You’ve spent £350 million. One of football’s most expensive jigsaw puzzles, and it’s like you’ve opened up the box and there’s two pieces missing. It must be so frustrating for Roberto de Zerbi. You can see that he’s trying different things. Bringing on subs, rotating players into different positions, but nothing’s working and that must be so frustrating as a manager.”
The North Londoners have been faultless at the back in their last two matches, registering two clean sheets and shutting up shop in impressive fashion. However, it is the misfiring attack that is causing a lot of problems for Roberto de Zerbi. The new-look frontline is finding it difficult to make an instant impact at N17 and help Spurs get over the line in the Premier League. New arrivals like Omar Marmoush and Savio are yet to get off the mark in the league, making it difficult for the fans to remain patient as the club continues to tumble down the league table.
With time running out for De Zerbi and patience wearing thin, the players need to step up and take responsibility in the final third in their upcoming matches. It is important that the attackers show confidence on the pitch and continue to force their way into the opposition box. The team needs to start shooting on sight and forcing the goalkeeper into making saves. Only then will they be able to end the goalscoring drought and muster some crucial points in the Premier League.
