Tottenham enter race for Sporting CP winger with Serie A side FC Como also keen

Tottenham are making plans to further reinforce their attacking unit after an underwhelming start to the 2026/27 season.

Tottenham Hotspur were very busy during the summer transfer window and spent heavily to rejuvenate their squad so as not to repeat last season’s disastrous Premier League campaign.

Scoring goals was an issue for Spurs last season, so they decided to pursue Premier League-proven attackers in the form of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk. However, despite spending heavily on Savio and Marmoush, as well as bringing in Mudryk on loan from Chelsea, the Lilywhites have yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham side have attempted 51 shots on goal in the Premier League this season without scoring a single goal. This shows that the North Londoners are regularly getting into promising positions in the final third but lacking the cutting edge. And it looks like the Hotspur Way chiefs want to address the glaring issue as early as possible.

Tottenham enter transfer race for Sporting CP star

The North London club have already started putting plans in place for the January transfer window. This has been evidenced by their growing interest in a player from the Portuguese top flight.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham have entered the race for Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo. Clubs across Europe are taking notice of the player, with Serie A side FC Como also keen.

Geny Catamo has enjoyed a stunning start to the new season, netting a goal and supplying three assists in six league appearances for Sporting CP. The Mozambique international’s strong form has ensured his name remains firmly on the radar of European clubs, with the winger already attracting fresh attention ahead of the January window.

Tottenham are one of those clubs as they look to plug the holes in their attack. Spurs need more flair and decisiveness on the flanks, which Mathys Tel has failed to provide so far this season. Mudryk has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury, while Wilson Odobert is out for the foreseeable future following an ACL rupture.

Catamo can create opportunities for his teammates and score goals as well. He has proven himself in Portugal and has the required attributes to thrive in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football. The African attacker has a contract with them until 2029 with a €60 million release clause. Sporting CP is under no pressure to sell him in January and will want interested clubs to trigger the winger’s buyout clause.

That said, it will be interesting to see whether we decide to pay Catamo’s €60 million release clause in January or risk losing out on him.
