Opta supercomputer’s latest PL table prediction does not bear good news for Tottenham fans amid crisis at N17

Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham side needs to start picking up wins in the Premier League in the coming weeks

Tottenham continue to struggle in the Premier League after remaining winless in their opening four matches under Roberto de Zerbi. The Lilywhites have struggled to get going and have already dropped crucial points in their bid to compete for European spots at the end of the campaign. As a result, the Italian tactician is under immense pressure to turn things around at N17, starting with Saturday’s clash against Aston Villa.

A second consecutive 0-0 draw in the Premier League last weekend saw the North Londoners slide further down the league table. It was a tale of two halves for Spurs, who started the game strongly against Everton but eventually ran out of ideas in the second half against a resolute Toffees defence. The loud jeers and boos ringing around N17 were enough proof that De Zerbi now has limited time to steady a sinking ship at Hotspur Way.

To make matters worse, Spurs crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday following a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. It is fair to suggest that the scoreline painted a different picture in the end, as the Lilywhites did well to carve out numerous openings against Andoni Iraola’s men away from home. However, what mattered in the end was being clinical in front of goal, and that is where the Reds succeeded. Liverpool took their chances when they came and eventually beat the North Londoners in convincing fashion.

Tottenham predicted to finish in the bottom half of the PL table?

Tottenham’s hierarchy did a great job of splashing the cash on new players and backing Roberto de Zerbi during the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites went through a major squad revamp as they aimed to compete at the top end of the Premier League table under the Italian tactician. However, it is fair to say that there are still some glaring issues within the team that have not been rectified. As a result, it is entirely possible that the North Londoners could end up finishing in the bottom half of the league table for a third consecutive season.

Following last weekend’s Premier League action, Opta’s supercomputer has now revealed where Spurs are predicted to finish in the league this season. As per the supercomputer, the Lilywhites are expected to finish 15th in the league table, with an expected points total of 45.71. The only teams expected to finish below them are Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Coventry City.

Opta has also predicted that the North Londoners have a 21.08% chance of being relegated from the Premier League if their performances do not improve in the coming months. On the other hand, their chances of securing European football remain minimal, with a 4.46% chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and a 3.04% chance of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. The onus now falls on Roberto de Zerbi to get his side back to winning ways in the Premier League before it gets too late for the 47-year-old to steady the ship at N17.

Anything less than a top-half finish in the Premier League would be seen as a failure for Roberto de Zerbi. After investing heavily in new signings and bringing in players who could instantly hit the ground running at N17, the Italian tactician now needs to get the best out of his squad as they aim to climb up the league table in the coming weeks. The main priority is to go on a winning run, starting with the clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.
