Roberto De Zerbi confirms Tottenham trio ft. Porro are to fit to feature vs. Aston Villa

Roberto De Zerbi has given an injury update on his Tottenham squad ahead of the home game against Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to win a game or score a goal in the Premier League this season after four games, having lost to Brentford and Newcastle United, while being held to 0-0 draws by Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Spurs’ season got grim in midweek, when they were eliminated from the EFL Cup thanks to a 3-1 defeat by Liverpool. The latest defeat leaves the Lilywhites with just one win so far this season, which came back in August in round two of the League Cup when they beat Charlton Athletic 5-1 at home.

Roberto De Zerbi will be desperate to get Tottenham’s season on track, and this Saturday could provide the perfect opportunity. Spurs entertain Aston Villa in North London in the Premier League, a chance for the home side to enter the season’s first international break with some dignity.

Tottenham handed triple injury boost ahead of Aston Villa game

Several Spurs players remain sidelined, including Mykhailo Mudryk, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski. Sandro Tonali became the latest player to enter the treatment room after picking up a knock in the goalless draw with Everton. This resulted in the midfielder missing the midweek cup game at Liverpool.

Ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Aston Villa, De Zerbi has now provided an update on Tonali and the overall fitness of his Tottenham squad.

“Porro, Tonali, Maddison, all are available to play,” De Zerbi said in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football London).

“We have to understand the situation in terms of physical condition, but all of them are ready.”

Pedro Porro suffered a minor muscle problem last week, sidelining him from the goalless draw with Everton in the Premier League, as well as the defeat to Liverpool in the EFL Cup. The Spaniard brings quality, leadership, energy and experience, so having him back for the weekend’s clash is a big lift for Spurs.

James Maddison featured off the bench at Anfield on Tuesday night, replacing Conor Gallagher in the final quarter of an hour. He made his presence felt immediately by releasing Marmoush with a delightful through ball, but the Egyptian international couldn’t reach and it was cleared by the Liverpool goalkeeper.

The England international has been working with the squad again after recovering from a shoulder problem, although De Zerbi stressed the player still needs time to reach peak condition. So, we expect Maddison to be involved from the bench once again, as Tottenham go in hunt for their first league win of the season.
