‘I believe in him’ – Alan Hutton shares Tottenham vs. Aston Villa prediction

Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening following a 3-1 away defeat to Liverpool. It was a big setback for Roberto De Zerbi, who was keen to see his team make a deep run in the domestic cup competition this season.

Despite losing at Anfield, the Italian boss has some positives to take and build on when Spurs host Aston Villa on Saturday in the Premier League. Tottenham and Aston Villa enter the contest desperately seeking their first Premier League win of the 2026/27 season.

Alan Hutton makes Tottenham vs. Aston Villa prediction

Despite Tottenham’s attacking struggles, the Opta supercomputer has installed Roberto De Zerbi and Co. as favourites to secure all three points against Aston Villa. Nonetheless, heading into the fifth league game of the season without a single goal scored is a major concern for Spurs, especially considering that the club spent a fortune on attacking talents during the summer transfer window.

Now, Alan Hutton, who has played for both clubs, has predicted the scoreline for the exciting clash in N17. Regardless of the two teams’ attacking woes, the former Scotland international has predicted a goalfest on Saturday.

“Neither side have started well, and they’ve got one league goal between them, so I should probably predict a 0-0! Villa have done really well away at Spurs in recent seasons. It seems like a place where they feel they can go and get a result,” Alan Hutton was quoted by Football London.

“I know they’ve had a tough start, but I still like Unai Emery, and I believe in him. It’s a tough one to call. I think it will be a draw and I’m going for 2-2. That’s a lot of goals for these two sides!”

De Zerbi gets massive injury boost ahead of Villa encounter

De Zerbi revealed in his press conference on Friday afternoon that Sandro Tonali is fit and available for selection against Villa. Tonali picked up a knock in the goalless draw with Everton at home and subsequently missed the cup game at Liverpool.

The Italian international has endured a slow start to life in N17 following his big-money move from Newcastle United this summer. In the last couple of games, though, the midfielder has improved and shown signs of getting back to his peak fitness levels. Alongside Tonali, De Zerbi also welcomes back Pedro Porro after he missed the last few games with a muscle problem.

Tonali and Porro are set to lift the spirits of Spurs heading into the game vs. Villa. De Zerbi’s side have got no excuses to not beat a lowly Villa at home and bounce back from the Carabao Cup disappointment.
