Arch-rivals Arsenal join the race to sign £100m-rated long-term Tottenham target from Bournemouth in January

Tottenham remain keen on bolstering their attack by bringing in additional reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Tottenham did well to bring in Premier League-proven players during the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites had a clear goal in mind: to revamp the squad and back Roberto De Zerbi in the market by bringing in players who could instantly hit the ground running at N17. It is fair to say that the North Londoners did not lack ambition, as they brought in ten new players after splashing almost £400m in the transfer market.

Spurs focused on strengthening every area of the pitch as they looked to kickstart a new era at N17 under Roberto De Zerbi. The club did well to sign the likes of Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marcos Senesi, and Marton Dubravka to shore up a leaky defence. Meanwhile, the Lilywhites also oversaw a midfield reshuffle, with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes arriving in quick succession. However, it was the improvements made in the final third that raised plenty of eyebrows at Hotspur Way.

The North Londoners initially confirmed Savio’s arrival from Manchester City on a permanent long-term deal. Days later, the club also announced the arrival of his Manchester City teammate Omar Marmoush on an initial loan deal until the end of the season. Bringing in these two players was not enough, as Spurs then went on to land Mykhailo Mudryk from Chelsea on an initial loan deal, with the club having an option to buy the player for approximately £75m next summer.

Tottenham need to fend off competition for Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi

Tottenham’s attacking struggles have continued to grow since the start of the new Premier League season. The Lilywhites are winless in their opening four league matches, with the club on course for its worst-ever five-game start to a new campaign if they fail to secure a result this weekend. To make matters worse, the North Londoners are also struggling to find the back of the net, with De Zerbi’s men being one of only two teams yet to end their goal-scoring drought in the Premier League this season.

It now makes complete sense why Spurs were pursuing a deal for Bournemouth star Eli Junior Kroupi in the summer transfer window. The Frenchman enjoyed a fruitful breakthrough campaign for the Cherries last season, netting 13 goals in 33 league appearances. As a result, the Lilywhites made him their top striker target for the summer before a foot injury in pre-season ruled out the possibility of a high-profile transfer. It was later confirmed that the 19-year-old would miss three to four months of football action, ruling out a move to a big club during the summer.

However, recent reports suggest that the North Londoners are still monitoring his progress and remain keen on adding him to their squad in the winter. But as per Football London (via TEAMtalk), Spurs might need to fend off competition from Arsenal for Eli Junior Kroupi’s signature. The Gunners are keen on adding further reinforcements in the final third, making the 19-year-old their priority target for a January move during the second half of the season. The report also states that Bournemouth have no plans to lose the talented striker midway through the season and have placed a £100m asking price on his services.

For now, Spurs have Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke leading the line in the Premier League. Both players possess immense quality and could go on a goal-scoring streak in the coming months. But if they continue to misfire during the first half of the season, then a move for Eli Junior Kroupi cannot be ruled out for the Lilywhites. The Lewis family has also pumped in an additional £120m that could be used to bolster the squad in the winter, giving the North Londoners a strong chance of fending off competition to land the 19-year-old talent.
