Tottenham are planning to revive their interest in a top Premier League midfielder in 2027.
Tottenham Hotspur focused on strengthening every area of the pitch as they looked to kickstart a new era at N17 under Roberto De Zerbi. It is fair to say that the club’s hierarchy did not lack ambition, as they brought in ten new players after splashing over £300m in the transfer market.
Creating and scoring goals was an issue for Spurs last season, so they decided to pursue Premier League-proven attackers in the form of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk. However, despite spending heavily on Savio and Marmoush, as well as bringing in Mudryk on loan from Chelsea, the Lilywhites have scored just twice in five Premier League games.
The North Londoners have already started planning for the next transfer window. They are reportedly monitoring and preparing to revisit their long-running interest in Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White. Tottenham came close to landing Morgan Gibbs-White last summer when they tried to trigger a £60 million release clause, but the move collapsed after Nottingham Forest challenged the approach and threatened legal action.
The playmaker eventually stayed at the City Ground and signed a new contract, yet the Lilywhites’ interest in him hasn’t vanished.
Nottingham Forest set to block Morgan Gibbs-White move amid Tottenham interest
Following the arrival of new manager Oliver Glasner and some changes to the squad, Nottingham Forest have endured a slow start to the season. However, it has not done much harm to Gibbs-White’s form, with the 26-year-old bagging a goal and two assists in five league appearances thus far.
Amid reports of Spurs keeping tabs on Gibbs-White, Football Insider’s transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke claims Forest do not need to cash in on the player anytime soon. This is because of Elliot Anderson’s blockbuster club-record £116million sale to Manchester City in the summer, which has left the Tricky Trees in a strong financial position.
“Tottenham’s interest still remains in Gibbs-White after they tried to sign him in 2025, but Nottingham Forest are in a strong position now. There’s no real need to sell any players,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider.
“They are quite financially stable, having sold Elliot Anderson to Manchester City in the summer, so that will just strengthen their determination to retain such a key player as Gibbs-White. Forest will be looking to keep hold of him long-term as they bat off interest from other clubs as well.”
New contract has raised Gibbs-White’s valuation
Gibbs-White committed his long-term future to Forest in 2025, signing fresh terms until 2028 that removed the £60 million release clause. Continued speculation persists as Tottenham contemplates a bigger future bid, but Forest remains firm on keeping the England international.
The new contract has lifted the creative midfielder’s valuation to around £125 million. That price reflects both his form and importance to Glasner and the Midlands club. Gibbs-White has established himself as one of the most creative forces in the Premier League in recent years, and his versatility combined with his vision, ball-carrying qualities, work rate and dynamism make him an enticing target for De Zerbi’s tactical setup.
However, with Forest in a commanding position over Gibbs-White’s future, it would take a herculean effort from Tottenham to bring him to N17 in 2027.
