Richarlison remains under contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2027.
We have entered the 2026/27 season’s first international break, and Richarlison is still a part of Tottenham Hotspur.
Roberto De Zerbi decided to exclude Richarlison from his 25-man Premier League squad after he had spoken to him about leaving the North London club. He later clarified it was not a decision taken lightly by coaching staff, but rather the cumulative result of choices made by the player over a 45-day period.
Brazilian side Vasco da Gama failed with a late move for Richarlison during the summer transfer window. Dubai-based club Shabab Al-Ahli emerged as a genuine potential solution for the 29-year-old last week. The UAE Pro League side made initial contact with the player’s representatives to register their interest and remained keen to sign him; however, a move did not happen.
With the summer’s transfer windows closed everywhere, Richarlison has nowhere to move and remains under contract at Spurs. However, because he was omitted from Tottenham’s official 25-man Premier League list, the Brazilian international is ineligible to participate in domestic league fixtures until the registration period reopens in January.
Tottenham could accept a nominal fee to offload Richarlison in January
Having been frozen out of the squad following an extensive summer rebuild exceeding £300 million, Richarlison finds himself firmly outside of Roberto De Zerbi’s fundamental plans. With De Zerbi keen to work and develop other attackers, the 29-year-old has no future at White Hart Lane.
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness claims now that Richarlison could will eventually end up at Vasco da Gama. He thinks that Tottenham could accept a paltry £1million to offload the forward during the winter window, ahead of his contract expiring next summer.
“My opinion is that he probably will go to Vasco da Gama fairly soon for a very low fee,” Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider.
“It’ll probably even be in the hundreds of thousands, and I think they will accept that the saving on his wages will be the benefit for Spurs. It’s just been a pretty unsavoury situation.
“He’s only got less than a year left on his contract, so the club haven’t got a lot of leverage. They’ll make him wait until January, but I think they’ll decide to get him off the wage bill and shake hands and say goodbye.”
A move back to Brazil firmly on the cards for Richarlison
Spurs reportedly set a €20 million price tag on Richarlison, as Vasco da Gama explored a late transfer before the South American deadline earlier this month. However, structuring the €20 million financial package required significant capital allocation, and Vasco failed to come up with the required fee.
Currently, Richarlison remains completely ineligible for domestic first-team fixtures, locking him into a four-month competitive exile at Hotspur Way until the European transfer market reopens in January. Vasco may revive their interest in the South American star and look to lure him back to his homeland. It’d then be interesting to see how much the North London club demands for the services of the forward who top scored for them last year.
