Andy Gray states why Tottenham will enjoy an upturn in results in the near future

Tottenham have entered the international rock bottom in the Premier League table.

Tottenham Hotspur spent big cash to back head coach Roberto De Zerbi over the course of the summer transfer window, but so far, they have failed to deliver positive results.

The Lilywhites broke their Premier League goals duck on Saturday, but it came in a losing cause against Aston Villa. After Aston Villa netted three, Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke came up with late goals to provide some dignity to the scoreline. Nonetheless, it was a third defeat of the Premier League season for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, who entered the international break rock bottom in the table.

Former Scotland international believes things will eventually fall in place for Tottenham after a tough start

Jamie O’Hara slammed his former club after they hit the foot of the table following Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United. The talkSPORT pundit admitted that he ‘can’t even deal’ with how poor Tottenham have been since the start of the campaign.

Famous broadcaster Andy Gray has a different view about Spurs, though. The ex-Scotland international believes De Zerbi’s side have been unlucky not to get results from their recent performances and is backing them to enjoy an upturn in fortunes after the September international break.

“There’s a lot of good things there that were in that team,” Andy Gray said on Keys and Gray Unleashed podcast.

“Played ever so well at Anfield, didn’t get it. They battered Everton for half an hour, 40 minutes, and didn’t get the goal that they needed and didn’t get the result. They then go this weekend for 45 minutes against Villa. were by far the better side. I was really concerned about Villa.

“But I’m going to stay with it, because I do think that one day, and it might be in three weeks’ time, somebody is going to get two or three or four against with them Spurs and then you might see Spurs just go like that [upwards].”

Worrying start to the season for De Zerbi

Spurs are yet to taste a win after five games and are staring down the barrel of another relegation fight for the second season running. De Zerbi saved the North Londoners from getting doomed last season and was rewarded with strong backing in the transfer market by the club’s hierarchy. Things haven’t just gone his way this season.

The Italian’s slow start to the campaign has attracted plenty of criticism from all corners of the world. Indeed, the onus is firmly on him to get a tune out of the squad, provide an identity to his team and get positive results.

A three-week international break gives De Zerbi a chance to evaluate what went wrong in the opening five games of the campaign and come up with solutions next time Tottenham take the field.
