Andy Robertson has been a part of the Tottenham side that is yet to taste a Premier League win this season.
Tottenham Hotspur have endured back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League and spent over £300million during the summer to make sure they vastly improve and become competitive again.
However, after two draws and three defeats in their opening five league outings, the Lilywhites sit bottom of the table and are already eliminated from the Carabao Cup after defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last week. After overseeing a club-record spend in the transfer market, Roberto De Zerbi is under pressure to steady the sinking ship at Hotspur Way.
Andy Robertson, signed on a free from Liverpool, is one of ten signings Spurs made. The 32-year-old spent nine years at Liverpool, where he won every trophy possible. As expected, the Scotland skipper has settled in at Tottenham like a duck to water; however, he is yet to taste a league win with his new club.
Andy Robertson reveals why Tottenham are struggling to hit form this season
Robertson has now opened up on Tottenham’s underwhelming start to the 2026/27 season. He admits the Lilywhites are still burdened by two years of gloomy Premier League form and the aftereffects of last term’s relegation scare.
“They’ve had a couple of really tough seasons in terms of finishes in the league,” Robertson told the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast (h/t The Daily Mail).
“They’ve had to go into the market in terms of they’ve spent a bit of money, but I do believe Tottenham are now starting a journey.
“I don’t know how far that journey can go, nobody does, but the determination in that group is, like, you can see last season hurt them a lot. And maybe we’re still guilty of carrying that weight of last season on our shoulders.”
Robertson has quickly become a regular fixture in De Zerbi’s side. The left-back has also revealed that De Zerbi has made it clear that Spurs must move on from their past failings, with the new signings expected to help drive that change.
Being one of the senior figures and leaders in the dressing room, the Scot has to lead the charge for a cultural reboot at the club. The ex-Liverpool star knows what it takes to win and succeed over a long period of time, and that mentality should rub on off the players to make the North Londoners competitive again in the Premier League.
