The Tottenham games Pedro Porro could miss after latest injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi is facing external pressure after a poor start to the season.

The North Londoners have entered September’s international break rock bottom of the Premier League table on two points from five games, having scored only two goals. Those goals came on Saturday in the defeat to Aston Villa, with Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke scoring.

Roberto De Zerbi is still having to juggle the fitness of several first-team players, including the likes of James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Dominic Solanke. The Italian tactician’s woes compounded at the weekend when Pedro Porro got injured in the first half against Aston Villa.

The Spanish international returned to action with Spurs during the 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup, having missed the opening-day defeat to Brentford, while he was also unavailable for the 0-0 draw with Everton and defeat to Liverpool in the cup. But after returning to the team against Villa this past weekend, he was forced off after just 19 minutes.

Games Pedro Porro could miss for Tottenham after latest injury blow

As per latest reports, Porro is expected to be out of action for around a month with a hamstring injury. The full-back will miss the four international games with Spain during this break, having withdrawn himself at the start of the week.

The 27-year-old is now expected to miss the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on October 10 right after the international break. He will also likely sit out of the Coventry City game at home on October 19. There is confidence that Porro will be available for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on October 24.

The 2026 World Cup winner sent a message to Tottenham fans on Sunday, and his wording suggested that this is not just a small hamstring issue. However, the reports that have lately emerged show Porro hasn’t torn his hamstring and should be back in action next month, provided his rehabilitation happens properly.

The Spaniard’s absence creates immediate tactical complications for De Zerbi. A clever, creative, hardworking and extremely competent player, Porro is crucial to De Zerbi’s fluid build-up system and organisation. The right-back’s qualities on and off the ball have made him one of the Lilywhites’ primary creative outlets in recent seasons alongside Maddison, Kulusevski and Kudus.

Archie Gray appears the likely candidate to replace Porro at right-back when Premier League resumes, although deadline day signing Tosin Adarabioyo can also operate in that role. Given his value to the club, it would be an understatement to say that Porro’s injury is a loss for De Zerbi.
