Nottingham Forest star pushing to leave club next year in search of Champions League football amid Tottenham interest

Tottenham are planning to revive their interest in the Premier League star in 2027.

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to get going this season, with new signings not yet gelling. They have entered the international break at the foot of the Premier League table, leaving Roberto De Zerbi under pressure.

Spurs ended the summer transfer window on a high note by bringing in three new attackers in quick succession. Omar Marmoush, Savio, and Mykhailo Mudryk were all brought in to add more firepower to the attack and help the Lilywhites become more potent and clinical in front of goal. However, that has not been the case so far, with De Zerbi’s side managing only two goals in five league outings.

Creating chances and scoring goals continue to plague the Lilywhites. Mohammed Kudus has looked rusty since returning from a long-term quad injury, while James Maddison is yet to start a game after recovering from an ACL rupture. With Maddison ageing and having become too injury-prone, signing a potential replacement remains a priority for Spurs in the upcoming transfer window.

Nottingham Forest star open to Tottenham move on one condition

Spurs have a long-standing interest in Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White. Tottenham activated a £60million release clause in the player’s contract during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was determined not to let the club’s talisman leave, though, and he threatened the Lilywhites with legal action over an unlawful approach to the player. He convinced Morgan Gibbs-White to reject Tottenham and sign a new three-year deal at the City Ground. The 26-year-old has been Forest’s standout performer in the last two years, and he has started the new campaign very well.

Recent reports suggest that Spurs are planning to launch an audacious new approach to sign the England international in 2027. Their latest offer could be worth as much as £125m, which would match the British transfer record.

Now, according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Gibbs-White is ‘weighing up’ a push to leave Forest at the end of the season. However, in order for Tottenham to succeed with the transfer, they will have to achieve Champions League qualification, while Forest will need to miss out. He is happy at the City Ground, but harbours hopes to play in the Champions League, and there is concern as to whether the Tricky Trees can match his ambitions.

At £125m, Gibbs-White would become Tottenham’s record buy, toppling the £100m summer spend on Sandro Tonali. It would also equal Alexander Isak and Enzo Fernandez as the joint-most expensive signing in Premier League history.

However, De Zerbi’s side will need to achieve Champions League qualification to match the playmaker’s ambitions. There will have to be a serious turnaround at Hotspur Way if they are to meet that goal. Moreover, the Lilywhites could reportedly face competition from Bayern Munich for the English ace’s signature.
