Tottenham are heading in the right direction under Roberto De Zerbi despite being winless in the PL this season.
Tottenham are facing a huge dilemma this season after finding themselves stranded at the bottom of the Premier League table. The Lilywhites managed to outdo themselves by splashing the cash on ten new players during the summer transfer window. A major squad overhaul took place at N17, with Roberto De Zerbi having a huge say in the incomings as the club aimed to back the Italian tactician. However, it seems as though the players are taking their time to adapt to the 47-year-old’s playing style.
Spurs have endured their worst-ever start to a new Premier League season after securing just two points from their opening five matches. To make matters worse, De Zerbi’s men have looked quite ordinary in the final third, scoring just two league goals during that time. This has left the Lilywhites in a difficult position, as they are nowhere near where they are expected to be in the league table.
The most recent 2-3 home defeat to Aston Villa was thought to be a real eye-opener for the North Londoners. It seems like the ongoing international break could not have come at a better time for Roberto De Zerbi, giving the Italian tactician three weeks to sort out the problems on the pitch before his side gets ready to face Manchester United away from home. However, the 47-year-old has already raised some eyebrows by giving the non-international players a week off to focus on their recovery.
Andy Robertson not worried about Tottenham’s slow start this season
There is no need for the club’s match-going fans to panic just yet. Tottenham’s performances this season have not been poor by any means. The Lilywhites have started games brightly and tried to play on the front foot by pressing high and creating numerous goal-scoring chances. The only thing missing is the final product, which could eventually come if the players continue to stick to the plan put in place by Roberto de Zerbi.
Andy Robertson has now claimed that the performances are improving, and the results will soon go their way if they manage to find their goal-scoring touch in the coming weeks. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast (via Hotspur Lane), Robertson said,
“Bit by bit we’re getting better and better. I think the last couple of weeks have been positive without getting the results. The Forest draw was a fair result, I think we should’ve beaten Everton, and we could be sitting here on more points. I think we need the first win, and once we get the first win, I think we’ll be really good this season.”
Not many match-going supporters can complain about Spurs’ in-game performances this season. The Lilywhites, in all honesty, have been quite unlucky this time around. The club’s position in the Premier League table does not reflect their performances on the pitch under Roberto de Zerbi. In fact, the underlying numbers suggest that the North Londoners could improve in the coming months and potentially compete in the top half of the league table in no time.
Roberto de Zerbi has remained adamant about his team showing progress in certain areas every week. The Lilywhites could look like a completely different outfit once the new players settle in and adapt to the Italian tactician’s playing style. It is important for everyone associated with the club to remain patient and give De Zerbi the time he needs to steady the ship at N17 and help the club climb up the league table in the coming months.
