Journo claims Tottenham are in a three-horse race for 29-year-old South Korean star from Bundesliga

Tottenham are eyeing further defensive reinforcements to address a leaky backline.

Tottenham Hotspur embarked on an expensive squad overhaul over the summer transfer window, bringing in 10 new players. Among all the high-profile incomings, the club’s main priority was to fortify the defensive unit.

However, the Lilywhites have failed to get their season up and running. They are at the foot of the table with just two points from five matches, scoring only two goals in those games. Despite the acquisitions of some experienced defenders, Spurs haven’t managed to stem the flow of goals.

After keeping back-to-back clean sheets in the draws with Nottingham Forest and Everton, Tottenham conceded three goals to an Aston Villa side equally struggling for confidence and form. Now, it may appear that the Lilywhites are further looking to bolster this area of the pitch.

Christian Falk reveals Tottenham’s interest in Bayern Munich star

According to reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Tottenham are embroiled in a three-way battle with AC Milan and Aston Villa for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. However, Vincent Kompany remains happy with the 29-year-old, and Bayern Munich are planning to hold talks with him over his future.

“I can say it’s still true that Bayern Munich will be the first club he opens any kind of talks with. But it will depend on a number of things, like what Bayern are offering this Autumn when they open talks over his future? Will they say Min-jae Kim can sign a new contract? Or is he still one of the players the club would consider selling to bring in some money?” Christian Falk exclusively told CFBayern Insider.

“This is why other clubs have Kim in their focus. Aston Villa is interested, and I heard both Tottenham and AC Milan are also looking at the South Korean international. In fact, the three clubs in question already made contact in the summer for Kim, but in the end, there was no offer.

“So, nothing concrete at the moment. I wouldn’t expect a January move or anything. Everything will depend on what Bayern Munich will tell Kim in contract talks this year.”

Bayern Munich set to hold talks with Kim Min-jae over his future

Kim Min-jae has dropped behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah in the pecking order, but he remains an important part of Vincent Kompany’s plans at the Allianz Arena. The Bayern Munich boss has regularly rotated his squad, allowing Kim to garner regular minutes across all competitions since the start of the season. He has played 399 minutes across five games for the German champions so far this season.

Since arriving from Napoli in 2023, the experienced defender has made 121 appearances for Bayern in just over three seasons in Germany, winning the Bundesliga title twice in that time, as well as the German Cup. Recent reports suggest Bayern’s top brass are planning a meeting with the South Korean international and his entourage to discuss his role and long-term prospects. If he is made available for transfer, Bayern would likely open talks at €25-30 million.

For now, a January departure for Kim looks unlikely. He continues to remain a key part of the Bayern squad. So, Tottenham officials will need to wait until the summer of 2027 to realistically launch a move for the ex-Napoli man.
