Tottenham star attracting interest from two Premier League giants.
Tottenham Hotspur find themselves at rock bottom in the Premier League after five games, which is not a situation many would have predicted after the club’s ambitious summer window. The start has left some Spurs fans apprehensive that they may be in for another extremely challenging season, potentially even another relegation dogfight.
The Hotspur Way chiefs strengthened almost every department in the squad, bringing in as many as 10 new players. One of the priority positions was the defence, with Roberto De Zerbi overseeing the arrivals of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Tosin Adarabioyo. However, the new defenders haven’t quite settled in and built a relationship with the existing players, leading to a shaky rearguard.
Well, that hasn’t stopped the Premier League rivals from keeping tabs on some of De Zerbi’s best players.

Manchester United, Liverpool monitoring Tottenham star
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United and Liverpool are closely monitoring Tottenham skipper Micky van de Ven as the two Premier League giants continue assessing their own centre-back options.
Liverpool are long-term admirers of Micky van de Ven. The Reds are making long-term plans to replace their skipper and great defender, Virgil van Dijk, who is expected to leave the club when his contract expires next summer. They have identified Van de Ven to fill Van Dijk’s void.
As for Manchester United, they admire the Dutchman’s mix of age, Premier League experience, leadership and ability to play on the left side of defence. The Red Devils are keeping a watch on the 25-year-old in a bid to strengthen their long-term defensive core.
However, the report adds Tottenham’s strong contractual positions means any future deal would be “difficult and expensive”.

Tottenham have no plans to let Van de Ven go
De Zerbi’s Spurs would be reluctant to lose Van de Ven and will demand a significant fee, particularly if they are to sell to a Premier League rival. The central defender signed a new long-term deal at White Hart Lane just last month, before succeeding Cristian Romero as the club’s skipper.
The Netherlands international may not have enjoyed the best of starts to the season, but his combination of recovery pace, technical ability, distribution skills, ability to defend large spaces and top-flight experience makes him a natural target for big clubs looking to fortify their defensive ranks. Van de Ven has made 101 appearances for the Lilywhites, registering 10 goals, whilst winning the Europa League trophy in May 2025.
Tottenham have no such plans to sell their skipper. Much could depend on Spurs’ season and whether Van de Ven himself becomes receptive to the idea of a move to either Liverpool or Man United. If he hints towards an exit, the Premier League heavyweights could make an attempt to sign the Dutch star in 2027.
