Tottenham could raid the Portuguese market for a highly-rated winger.
It has been a disappointing start to Tottenham Hotspur’s 2026/27 Premier League campaign, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side rooted to the bottom of the table after collecting just two points from their opening five games.
The Lilywhites were very busy during the summer transfer window and spent heavily to rejuvenate their squad. They splashed over £300 million to bring in 10 new players in a bid to not repeat last season’s disastrous Premier League campaign. One of the biggest criticisms has been that Spurs left certain key profiles untouched while investing heavily in positions where they already had depth.
A major concern has been their lack of quality goalscoring options, which has been evidenced by Tottenham scoring only twice in five league games this season. In addition to a striker, though, it appears that the N17 chiefs are also planning to further improve the wide options.

Tottenham eye move for Benfica winger
According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Tottenham are among several top European clubs interested in Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni. Spurs scouts were in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao for the derby last weekend, where the 20-year-old set up Benfica’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat to FC Porto.
Last season was marred by a racism incident involving Gianluca Prestianni and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr., and the former’s actions even gave birth to a rule at the FIFA World Cup 2026. However, the Argentine has managed to put that behind him and has started the 2026/27 campaign strongly with eight goals and three assists in 12 matches across all competitions. Following his sizzling form, he has been called up to the national team squad for their forthcoming friendlies.
The newspaper claims that Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid are among several clubs across the continent monitoring Prestianni. However, securing his signature will be a major challenge for potential suitors.
Wary of his growing reputation and importance to Marco Silva’s squad, Benfica have already begun contract talks with the player’s representatives. The Eagles are working swiftly to tie the winger down to a new deal beyond 2029 by offering him a salary rise. By doing so, they will secure Prestianni’s future, while his release clause stays intact at €100 million. So, any club looking to lure him away from Estadio da Luz will likely have to make a significant financial commitment.
It is only a matter of time before we see top clubs coming in for the highly-rated Argentina international. He has the tools to succeed at the highest level, with the player already demonstrating his talent and potential on a consistent basis at Benfica this season.
For Spurs, Prestianni would be an upgrade over Mathys Tel in terms of productivity, maturity and decision-making. The South American trickster would enhance the quality of Tottenham’s attack, whilst competing with Mohammed Kudus and Savio for a starting berth. That said, the main question is whether the North London club’s hierarchy would be ready to break the bank for the Benfica talent in 2027.
