Juventus ready to exercise their option to complete a permanent move for 29yo Tottenham loanee

The star moved to Juventus on loan from Tottenham in the summer.

After taking charge of Tottenham Hotspur in March, Roberto De Zerbi quickly steadied the ship and oversaw a run of five unbeaten in seven matches to secure their top-flight status.

A major summer rebuild followed, with more than £300m spent as Roberto De Zerbi received strong backing to bring in the recruits needed to execute his style of play and tactical vision for the new campaign. 10 new faces walked into the club, and more than that figure left N17. Among the players to depart Spurs was Guglielmo Vicario.

After a summer of intense speculation, Guglielmo Vicario joined Juventus on a season-long loan to become their new No.1. The Turin giants have an €8m option to sign the 29-year-old.

Juventus make decision on Guglielmo Vicario’s future

Despite those early doubts surrounding him, Guglielmo Vicario has made an excellent start to life at Juventus, keeping the opposition at bay in three of his five appearances. He has conceded only four goals whilst keeping three clean sheets, helping the Bianconeri win three of five Serie A games before the extended international break took centre stage.

Impressed with his early performances, a report by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Calciomercato), Juventus are ready to exercise their option to complete a permanent move for Vicario from Spurs. They have “already decided to exercise the right of redemption set at €8 million” next summer, with the Italian shot-stopper having reached an agreement on a three-year contract, which will be valid until June 30, 2030.

Earlier this month, Vicario opened up about his exit from Tottenham following a transformative period for the club under De Zerbi. The experienced goalkeeper made it clear that he prefers to look forward rather than dwell on past events in North London. So, reports emerging of Juventus wanting to sign the Italian permanently should come as positive news for De Zerbi and Spurs.

Vicario made the move to Tottenham from Empoli in the summer of 2023. While he produced several match-winning performances, the glovesman was error-prone and shaky during his three-year spell with the North London outfit, with the issues amplifying in the last 18 months. It is good to see Vicario enjoying his football again after returning to his homeland.

It is still premature to determine whether the glovesman will become a hit at the Old Lady, but should they activate his €8m option to buy, the deal could ultimately prove to be a bargain for Juve. One thing is clear: the former Spurs No.1 has quickly become a cult hero in Turin.
