Pat Jennings calls Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky a really good prospect

The star has been promoted to the No.1 Tottenham spot since the start of the pre-season campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur grabbed the headlines in the summer by spending around £400 million on 10 new signings. The club’s hierarchy took this step in the wake of the Lilywhites’ narrow escape from relegation last term.

In an expensive squad rebuild, Roberto De Zerbi bid goodbye to several experienced players. Guglielmo Vicario was one of those, with the 29-year-old sealing a season-long loan switch to Juventus. De Zerbi signed veteran Martin Dubravka as Vicario’s replacement, while promoting Antonin Kinsky to the No.1 spot.

Antonin Kinsky joined Spurs from Sparta Praha in January 2025 and had spent much of his last 18 months in North London deputising for Vicario before taking his opportunity when the Italian international was ruled out with injury. The 23-year-old produced a series of impressive displays towards the fag end of Tottenham’s relegation battle, doing enough to convince De Zerbi that he could be relied upon with the No.1 shirt.

Tottenham legend calls Antonin Kinsky “really good prospect”

Kinsky signed a new deal in the summer and replaced Vicario as Tottenham’s No.1. However, the Czechia glovesman hasn’t started the 2026/27 season very well.

The 23-year-old was culpable for one of Brentford’s goals in the 3-0 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium on the opening weekend of the season. Since then, Kinsky has inspired full confidence and authority in goal.

Now, Tottenham legend Pat Jennings has described Kinsky as a “really good prospect”, but would prefer if the Czechia international and other goalkeepers stopped passing out from the back.

“Time will tell, but he looks a really good prospect, so that’s the main thing,” Pat Jennings said at the club’s Hall of Fame (h/t Irish News).

“To be honest, not only him, but it drives me mad watching them, you know, playing out. For me, the best place to defend is in the opposite 18-yard box.

“You spend hours now making goalkeeping saves and practising that. And then you mess about at the back playing out, but the goalkeepers, they don’t want to play like that. It’s the managers and the coaches because that’s the new style of play.”

Kinsky called up to the Czechia squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures

Kinsky is currently on international duty after being called up to the senior Czechia squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures. The youngster’s fine form between the sticks has brought continuity and much-needed stability to Tottenham’s backline, and his reward has been a call-up to the national team.

The Tottenham custodian was an unused substitute in Czecha’s Nations League opener against Croatia last week. His status is unlikely to change against England on Tuesday night, with Newcastle United’s Lukas Hornicek as Czechia’s first-choice goalkeeper. Just being with the senior squad will provide valuable experience for the developing shot-stopper.

If Kinsky gets a chance in the upcoming games, he will want to deliver his best and rebuild his confidence. Every minute gained on the international stage will help his development greatly.
